Fire Suppression Systems
« on: July 24, 2014 - 05:19:22 AM »
Last night at a local car meet up I frequent there was a small dash fire due to a switch and some 'custom' wiring burning out. The engine was turned off and an extinguisher sprayed under the dash, which turned out to be be unnecessary, but its better to play it safe. The car is fine aside from slight damage to a section of the dash foam. I don't have any photos, sorry. This got everyone at the meet talking.

How many people on this forum have a plumbed fire suppression system in their project cars?

I just have an extinguisher.  We had a fire system in the super modified race car I worked on and ran race fuel, but plumbing a system in a Cuda/Challenger might be a little overkill.   :2cents:

After a couple incidents like yours my brother just installed a little extinguisher in his car. I should probably have a little one around too. Lotta wear and years on our systems.

I have purchased a small 5 pound extinguisher to mount in my boot, the value of my project does not justify a plumbed system. I was wondering if anyone had a thermally triggered system as extra protection in a high value/rare car.
