Porting Small Block Heads
« on: July 26, 2014 - 04:32:20 AM »
There's an artilce in the new Mopar Muscle on how to port
small block heads for power.
72 Cuda, owned 25 years. 496, with ported Stage VI heads, .625 in solid roller, 254/258 at .050, 3500 stall, 3.91 rear. 850 Holley DP, Reverse manual valve body.

1999 Trans Am, LS1, heads, cam, headers, stall, etc! Love to surprise the rice rockets with this one. They seem so confident, then it's "what the heck just happened?"

2011 Kawasaki Z1000

MP/DC  used to offer porting templates for the LA and Magnum style small block heads. Good luck finding any these days. I used to sell these for around $25 a set. I've tried to reacquire some and the only guy I've found willing to sell them is some dude in England who wants $150 a set.

Briefly looking through this article, it appears they are doing a deep bowl cut to clean up the throat of the port along with a 5 angle valve job and some minor hand blending. Its surprising to see such simple work yield such signficant results, but, I believe Steve Dulcich wrote an article on this exact  same process about 10-12 years ago.
