installing gas tank
« on: July 27, 2014 - 06:43:31 PM »
Hello All

I put in a new filler neck seal on my gas tank and am wondering what I could put on it to make the filler neck install a little easier. I didnt want to put grease on it in fear of damaging the rubber on the seal in the long run. Silicone maybe? Also, what process does everyone use to install the filler neck when installing the tank? Should I attach it to the quarter panel first?

Thanks

There is a brake lube designed for rubber parts in brake assemblies....I use that stuff....you could try vaseline?

I install the filler neck in the car first, then the tank.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

:iagree: , Along with the petro jelly, you can also set the filler neck grommet in the sun for several hours , it tends to slide on the filler neck easier.

Spray silicone lube works great---leaves no residue--love that stuff.
