Just placed an order with Legendary...
« on: July 29, 2014 - 01:00:54 PM »
After searching and searching, reading and reading for days and weeks...
(some inputs from you guys here made the difference in my decision BTW)
I call John at Legendary Auto Interiors. Talk about an extra nice guy.  :2thumbs:
I wanted Gran Coupe 70/71 seat covers for front and rear (convertible) seats. I didn't have the budget for leather in the front seats and asked John if they could be done in vinyl but still have the sewn stitching and buttons the same as the gran coupe leathers. He said yep for a small custom fee. Ended up being a lot cheaper going with vinyl but having the Gran Coupe style.
So I placed an order.  :2thumbs:
4 to 6 weeks.  :bananasmi

Thanks to everyone here on C-C.com for their opinions and advice in other threads about the different vendors on seat covers.

Thanks guys.

I sure will post before, during and after pics. It will be my first time but there is good info out there so we'll see.

I forgot to mention. When talking with them I asked about the convert rear side panels, what vendor? He said he wasn't sure but was honest about them up front (won't really say what was mentioned in public here) but it didn't sound like I would be pleased for my taste. So I passed on them.
So honesty on that discussion played a part in making the seat cover purchase as well.  :2thumbs:
BTW, 4C helped me on getting the vert panels.  :2thumbs:

Well, after the recommendations from guys here on this forum, I also went with the Legendary covers for my Cuda, but I got just the plan Jane type. I will start installing them today. I have some suggestions; First; don't throw anything away before you finish the job; there are 5 little wires in the seat called Listing Wires, which do not come with the new covers.  Fortunately,, they are easy to make as I threw away two of them.  Secondly, warm the covers up in the sun, use 3/8ths hog rings, and be patient; E body seats are complicated pieces; not like a simple slip over and crimp seat cover.  Except for the rear ones; those are very simple. And the Legendary covers seem very good quality but I have never seen any others to compare.

Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.

I ain't done yet.

Thank you very much for the tips dpcd,
I'm probably going to bug you once I get started.
My seats came bare and naked with no prior covering so the little wires I'm sure I don't have and would like more info of what they are and what they do.
Are hog rings sold locally and easy to get?
I've got my homework cut out for me but you have already provided great info.  :2thumbs:

And would you mind posting pics and details of the step by step process you do to get them covered?

Yes, I am taking pics and will post them; that will help you do yours. Hog rings are sold at many hardware stores but get them on ebay; you need the special pliers too.  They are easy to get; standard things in the upholstery business if not used on pigs any more. They go in pig's noses to keep them from rooting.

Got the rears done; easy, just like a Chevy seat!.  Mopar front buckets are a (well designed) ***** so it takes more than one person; 3 would be best. Pics later this week.

I see the forum deletes bad words like bee eye tee see aitch. I am stuck on my buckets today since my wife said she won't help me.  They can't be done by one person so stand by.

Dang it, between this forum and your wife, your not having a very good day today are you?  :smilielol:

Tell your wife you are part of a very important support group called "M.A." (Mopar Anonymous) and we have serious withdrawls if support isn't provided.  :drunk:

Yeah, that will work on her.  She is well aware, and not supportive, of my penchant for Mopars. Today wasn't wasted though, I finished my Vintage Air install.
