Brake warning light?
« on: July 29, 2014 - 07:58:49 PM »
I've been trying to work out why my fuel gauge isn't working and I got to the step of pulling apart the harness connections behind the kick panel and cleaning them up. Got a ton of filth out and when I put them back together it causes a light on my dash to come on when the ignition is on. Is this the brake warning light? It's very bright and it mocks me  :stomp: fuel gauge still not right, but at least it reads 10.5 ohms when full. Though it reads 16 ohms empty, when it should be 97 ohms... so I'm also thinking I need to yank the sending unit and check that is hunky dory.

I imagine while working around the kick panel somehow the parking brake switch has come discombobulated & showing the brake on.

Thanks. I will make that my first area of attention. Makes sense for that to be the case since it's right there. :working:

That light also comes on when the brake proportioning valve switch is off center or the wire is grounded. If it isn't your parking brake switch or wire, unplug your prop valve wire to see if the light goes off.

Closeout; it was the parking brake. I feel silly but I love a simple fix. Also feel closer to my car digging into it and with how dirty those connections were I don't feel it was wasted effort.

Now that you have it solved, can I hijack your thread and ask you what the red/white/green/black wires you can see by your light bar are for?

Those are for a tach. They come in the firewall and snake up the left side to where you see them. The tach was just to the right of it, but it broke. New one should be here in a day  :)
