Big block four speed install in a 73 cua
« on: July 29, 2014 - 08:41:46 PM »
:Canada: Hey guys I need some help with my four speed install. I have a 73 Cuda 340 4 speed car I have owned it since 1978. In the early eighties I installed a 440 four speed then an manual auto for some strip time. I am now trying to install the same four speed and I think the same bell housing. Problem is the z bar and adjuster do not line up and there is no proper peddle play at all. The 11" clutch fork seams to hang low in the bell housing opening as well. I have looked on Brewers and got there good info for the new parts for the z bar and adjuster, I think my biggest issue is I do not know what bell housing I have and I do not want to pull the trans to find the number. I took a file to the housing opening at the dust cover and its a cast housing. Did they make the cast housings in 10.5 " as well as the 11" Any suggestions or ideas would be a great help. Thanks

Thanks for the input does anyone have a suggestion on what to use for the Z bar and rod combo for the 11" bell housing. Or some one who has done this conversion, may have some ideas. Thanks

I have seen some brackets that bolt onto the bell & relocate the ball so maybe a bracket can be made to center the ball correctly

You can put a hydraulic setup in and get rid of the z bar and fork also.
