How have y'all shipped 8 3/4 center chunks?
« on: July 30, 2014 - 01:10:58 PM »
How have y'all done shipping/packaging without killing the bank? I had someone suggest using a regular 5 gal bucket but the yoke on the center section sticks up, bucket isn't tall enough.

Built a box out of scrap plywood, cheap metal L brackets on corners.

No way around killing the bank - those suckers are HEAVY.  I've stored/shipped them in a 6 gallon bucket w/ a plywood circle cut to fit the bucket on the bottom.  Need the support on the bottom to spread the load or else one errant drop or quick lift will crack the bottom of the bucket.

I had one that was shipped to me in a plastic milk crate. The shipper used two pieces of plywood, on on the bottom for strength and another on the top to close the crate. The plywood was then screwed into place with wood screws going through the frame of the milk crate.

Worked really well, and it gives you handles to carry the thing around with too.  :2thumbs:

I have a friend who bought a falcon fender in Colorado. The seller shipped it by Greyhound from Denver to Pittsburgh Pa. For $50.00 . We had to pick it up at the Greyhound station in Pittsburgh. I didn't know Greyhound did shipping.

Yes, Greyhound is usually the best for shipping big items; just got a set of jeep top bows that way which was far less than UPS. Heavy and oversize items get real expensive real fast with UPS.  But shipping a pumpkin; I would just put it into a heavy cardboard box.

Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.

I ain't done yet.

To save money on shipping I have always used Fastenal. They ship cheap. Just go into a store and talk with them.
Its just a little 340 with a miss
