ENGINE BLOCK DOWELS
« on: August 01, 2014 - 05:31:28 PM »
So another stupid problem...one of the two dowels on the back of my new block is stuck in my 727 trany bellhousing. Both seem a little tight going together and sure enough one pulled out. My cave man answer is to just sand down both to make it a little easier going together but figured I'd ask you guys what you would do? The dowells also are longer than the original ones in my old 383, they stick out about an inch from the block.

They are very important for proper alignment. Get new ones that are correct for the application, believe me it will save you tons of possible grief down the road.  :2cents:

I always used 1/2 dowel pins. I stick um in a freezer for a day or two ( To shrink them a little) then drive em in.
