Lug Nuts
« on: August 04, 2014 - 08:31:13 PM »
The lug nuts on my '70 Challenger are right hand thread on one side and left hand thread on the opposite side. I understand all this but was just wondering if anyone knows why Chrysler did this? I realize that I can change the studs but I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible. Any clues?

Believe it was done because the left side wheels are rotating counterclockwise when the car is moving forward. Left hand lug nuts tighten counterclockwise thus the lugs would remain tight as the car moved forward.

 :iagree:
Right thread lugs can loosen on the left side , Freightliner is still using left threads on the left side of their trucks up until 1/6 dozen years ago for sure  & maybe still today .
