First Car Show Attended in 25 Years, Then This...
« on: August 07, 2014 - 11:29:29 PM »
Today was "Mopar Muscle Magic" car show at Pier 4 Park in Hamilton, Ontario.    I'd say over a hundred cars came out, not all mopars, but was packed with lots of beauties.    My new 71 Cuda is all waxed up, detailed and I make my way down to the park.   I normally  never take my eyes off the cuda when venturing out but at this show I let my guard down.    After checking out all the eye candy (and all the nice cars), I come back to this scratch on my billboard  :eek2:.   The damn billboard was painstakingly applied a month ago!    Note to myself...NEVER take your eyes off the car! :nono:

That sucks man.  However, it could've still happened with you sitting right there too.  People are just careless with buttons, watches, belts, purses, anything with a sharp edge.

At least it's just the billboard. My paint was scratched by a boarder agent when importing it :swear:

It's funny like you see finger prints there and a watch hit your billboards and got drug or something.

Sucks...

That does suck. Car shows are nice events sometimes, you get to show off your hard work and a lot of people respect that, then again some others don't.

That does suck...  I wish whoever did that would have left a note or something and stepped up to the plate to pay for their miscue......   That doesn't happen much these days....     :banghead:

It could have happened while driving down the road. I've seen stones or debris do the same kind of damage. :2cents:

Either way it sucks, but you can just replace the billboard and even claim it on your insurance if you wish.

That stinks.  When at car shows I keep at least 1 foot away from any car I see.  It's called respect.

there's only the small percentage of people (which is the car owners) that actually care about other people's vehicles.
at lease once a year i catch someone leaning up against  my car while they are BS'in with someone. i walk up to them
and ask, "is this your car?" and after they say "no", i politely tell them to "get the F*ck off of it". then i tell them "it's
A-holes like you that should stay away from these events". i don't care if i hurt their feelings

Back around 1992 I did body work & painted my red Challenger Convertible, I was literally putting final touches on it five minutes before hitting the road for Hot August Nights in Reno..... Get to Reno, hit the A&W hadn't been there 15 minutes & so jackass is leaning on my car... I confront him & he comes off with "Hey it's just a car man, no big deal" As he gets off the fender, there's a 3" long scratch...  Now I'm really pissed, & we are getting quite a few peoples attention, he's getting threatened by people I've never met... He was escorted off the property by security to keep many in attendance from kicking his ass... Most of the people appreciate how much work, love & money we put into our cars but there's always those who have no clue & are only there for "The Party"...

1997 I stupidly took my Sublime Challenger Vert to Hot August Nights thinking I wouldn't run into any more idiots.... I quickly learned the value of a primered Hooptie, there was a guy parked next to me with a 49 Merc done in black primer... He didn't care that people with strollers & cameras were bouncing their crap off his car.. I on the other hand...

I stuck around for about 2 hours in the evening then I had to leave before my girl friend or I went to jail... That time I got no damage but allot of stress.... I'll never take a car to a show like that again... Hot August Nights is more of a Street Party with cars as distractions rather than a car show...

Not that things can't happen at the car show but hopefully you get more of a car people type of crowd rather than a drunk idiot who had one just like it when he was younger.... That is a 73 Nova right???....

I know this may come off has snooty but is there any reason why people who are showing their cars do not put up a barrier around their cars at these shows? You could make it where a bystander could only get within 2 feet of the car in any one direction

I have a little sign that I place under the wiper blade that says  --  "Look all you want, but please do not touch".  That works pretty well for most folks. They get the idea without me having to say anything....

The last show I went to I noticed a lady with a kid all over this car parked two spots away from mine.  At one point she let the kid open the door and get in, turn the wheel, push the buttons, etc.  I should have jumped up to stop them, but I wasn't sure if they were there with the owner since they were so casual about it.  Then the kid got out and they moved on and I realized she was just a total idiot raising her kid to be the same.  I kept waiting for them to come back by so I could jump on them about it but they never did.  My cars are drivers right now, I know I'm going to be spastic when I get them done...

I'm starting to worry that I may never take the car out of the garage once it's finished.   :pullinghair:
