fish horn button?
« on: August 11, 2014 - 06:35:50 PM »
I'm getting the Grant 246 steering wheel. It's looks to be a Rim Blow knock off. I want to use the repro fish center cap for the original  rim blow wheel. Has anyone done this?

I want to say I have seen them installed on the Grants but no details on install. Did you find a source for the repo fish cap? I just bought a restored rim blow and am looking for fish cap and switch

Classic Industries sells the center cap but they are always out of stock so I found a guy on EBay the had some. As for the horn switch I used one off a stock '74 Barracuda steering wheel.

I bought a Repop Tuff wheel with Fish cap on ebay. dalescudashop.com "1oldmopar" on ebay
It's not as soft as an original tuff wheel but I like the look.
I would like to have it leather wrapped some day to give it better grip. Very low on my wish list though.

Cudaragtop, do you know what kind of horn switch is on your wheel? There is no way a stock steering wheel horn switch will work as it will make the fish center cap sit way to high on the wheel. Also do the three screws on the fish center cap screw into the wheel to hold the cap in place or does the cap snap on to the horn switch like the plain caps?

The switch is the one that came on the wheel. The fish cap just pushes on. The back has foam rubber that you can see where the nuts left impressions.
I think it is the Fish Cap that is different than stock. But I don't have a stock one to compare it with.  It looks like this. A little washed out by the flash. It really does look better than the picture. I'll post a couple pictures of in the next time I get the car out. Too dark in the garage for good phone pics...
The horn does work.  :2thumbs:

hmmm, it looks like your center cap does not sit against the steering wheel. The horn switch is the same as i have. When i snapped my cap on the horn switch the cap sat about 1/2" off the wheel. Just didnt look right that way.

The back of my cap looks the same as the one you have but without the foam. I wonder if your horn switch is not as tall as mine?

I have a Grant wheel somewhere with a plain Tuff wheel center on it I'll see if I can find it and measure to see if they are the same.

Sorry it took so long to get back to you.
The switches are the same height, 1-1/8"
The cap to wheel gap is the same on both wheels, 1/8" with the standard cap on either wheel and 1/4" with the fish cap on either wheel.
The gap is filled by the foam on the fish cap though so it isn't really noticed.
