    Unrestored driver E-bodies?

    Thinking about dragging a car out of the barn and making a driver out of it.  Just curious to see some unrestored E-body drivers.  :thinkerg:  I am trying to decide how to proceed with my project.    :clueless:   The car needs paint, but after a couple of bad dealing with several body shops.  Painting it is not an option.  :eek4:    I don't like the just "primer" over everything option.  So I am thinking just dragging it out.  Get the car running and driving.  Make it reliable and driving it as is.

    Mine started out like that but I quickly realized I wanted better fuel economy (ha!) so on went the OD tranny, EFI, etc.   paint comes last!

    Center is busted out of the grille.  Been trying to find one since 2005 and no luck.  Either they are $1500-$2000 or the seller is not willing to ship.  Anyway the car was missing seats, console and shift linkage, motor, trans, and a few other misc items.  I bought all the parts at different swap meets along the way except the grille.  Now that my other projects are "done" for the most part.  I decided I wanted a car that I could drive when the weather was not optimal for a freshly done car.  I started looking around or something and decided I might just as well use the yellow car that I already had.  The body is not in great shape. The interior is all miss matched and weathered.  So I figured why not start with that?   I was planning to put 15x7 Magnum 500's on it but I may go with something "old school" and polyglas tires to complete the "fresh out of storage" look.  Trying to come up with some ideas how to make it something better than an old beat up car without painting it.?

    We did EFI on my wifes car.   This will be a lower budget project.  Something to drive when it is cloudy, windy, dusty and I don't want to worry about all the stuff associated with driving a freshly done car.

    I painted my car in my driveway with flat black paint, you can also get it in any color.  Materials cost around $125, so there is no reason, unless you want to, to drive around in a "unpainted" car.

    Maybe an alternative would be to buy a broken grill and transplant the center section.  I've seen people sell them here or on Moparts...  I fixed major cracks and replaced parts of mine successfully and I've never tried something like that before...  :)

    Just thought I would update this thread.  The unrestored driver project is not going to happen.  :screwy:  We started pulling the firewall items to clean up the engine compartment before dropping the motor in.  After a couple of days work, I decided to do it once and be done.   :drool:  So with my brother and my dad we are going to make an attempt restoring the car from the ground up!   The car will be media blasted and painted by a local shop.  The seats will be done by another local shop.  But all the tear down and reassembly will be done by us as a family.   I will have a million questions and it may take awhile to get it all done.  But we are going to give it one heck of a try.... :thumbsup:   

    This is a pic from day 4 of the tear down.  We have worked on it 2 more days now and as of today. Everything is out/off expect the suspension, headliner bows, sunvisors, door handles, locks and back glass.  I am going to order a rotisserie next week.

    its good to see it get what it deserves.  driving it as is would've been cool, but these cars deserve to be restored
