Early style Steering Coulper

Ok....so I picked up a used coupler for my power steering swap.

It is the early style with out the small pin at the top of the coupler.

My understanding is that this pin was used to retain the shoes in the coupler.

Is the early style ok to use, are the dangerous.

Would it be worth it to drill the proper size hole and use the pin?

I just want to get this done and get the car back on the road!!!

Nope column is not collapsed.

Thanks guys.  I will install it tonight and get back to driving the car!!

I would drill the small hole for the time it takes

took me all of a min to set it up in the drill press and drill the hole.

Pretty good time spend for piece of mind!

That's what I would have done too.  You don't want the shoes coming out.
