Turn key to off in neutral, car acts like it stalled and clunk sound?

Cars driving great but sometimes hesitates to start, starter keeps clicking then finally goes. Figure it might be time for a new starter, no biggie. This isn't the issue...

When I turn off the car, it's in neutral and I turn the key to the off position, it hesitates almost sounds like it's stalling then I hear a clunk and it shuts down. What is this? It's a completely new behavior, I haven't done anything to the car...

I'd bet it's not the starter,more likely a poor connection or bad battery cable.

Sounds like your engine is dieseling on shut down. Several thing can cause this, one being carb. butterflies not closing.
