fuel sending unit issues
« on: September 02, 2014 - 02:41:11 PM »
I replaced my furl sending unit about a year ago when the other one capped out. And this one has never read over 1/2 a tank, and that is when it's full. After 5 gallons has been used it reads empty. I learned to just deal with it for the time being, but yesterday I had to spike the brakes and afterward I noticed that my fuel gauge read full. I was excited as it's never done that. But now it won't come down off the full mark. I'm just wondering if anyone has any ideas or maybe a GOOD reproduction they can suggest as I've had nothing but problems with this from the very beginning. Cars a 74 satellite, but I'm guessing it will have the same setup as an ebody would.

My replacement sending unit does same.  When I fill it, it goes to full, then down to just above half tank.  You can read this thread where the seller is doing a group buy on a Original sending unit.  Just read this thread.  I put my order in. I know this was posted on this Forum, but I could not find it.

If you read the last page, they said they will take more orders.  You can always contact Dixie Restorations for more details.  All they wanted was to make a minimum amount of orders before the manufacturer will even produce them.  The minimum was met, but from what I can read, they have not been produced yet and they can take more orders.

That's great.  I'll give them a call and see if I can get on the list.  Thanks.   :2thumbs:

Yes.  What they don't have yet is the 3/8 e-body.  That is what I signed up for.

Aris...Good for you.  If we knew you had a small block, the 5/16 are still available.  So let us know how it works out.

I'm ok with upping the fuel line size if I have too, planning on building that motor up as a stroker anyways. Haven't installed it yet (gonna order a new ground strap before I do just in case) but it looks good. Only complaint so far is the made in mexico sticker on the box lol, maybe I'm wrong but I have a hard time believing they were originally made in mexico.

Mine does the same thing and all the components are new or NOS.  I wasn't sure what to do next.
1963 Dodge M37 (3)
1967 Dodge WM300 (2)
1971 Plymouth Duster
Bought new in '71; I wanted the Challenger but they were $2850; too much $ so I got the 318, 3 speed on the floor, Twister Duster for $2100.
1973 Plymouth Barracuda
I ain't done yet.

Keep your original ones. Soak them in EvapoRust and reinstall them. My guess is that most will work again.

My original is long gone; and the repro does not have the correct ohm range to make the gauge work correctly. Dixie's web site says they are out of the original maker's senders and only have 3/8s ones not made from the original vendor, but they are good, and they only have NOS 5/16s ones at $135 each.

Im sure you are right things were not made in Mexico back then, but apparently its the original vendor and we can only hope the specs and quality be the same or close.  We all just want a functioning sending unit.
