Rt se with no radio??
« on: September 02, 2014 - 06:00:44 PM »
My 70 RT SE did not come to me with any radio. It does have a radio delete panel. The front fenders were replaced so not sure about it coming with an antennae or not. Rear shelf has holes chopped out for two aftermarket speakers. It looks like a blank plate below the center dash speaker grill. It does not look like a speaker cone. Finally the build sheet has nothing marked off under radio or speakers.
Doesn't this seem kind of strange given that the car is an SE and not a stripper?

Do you have the data plate codes handy? post them, and lets see if you have an R code (R11, R22, R35) or not.  if you don't, then it is a Radio Delete car.  The original right front fender would not have the antenna hole, nor would the inner right cowl/panel where the antenna wire would have gone through.

There is nothing starting with an R on the fender tag. I'm not sure where the antennae cable enters the cabin. There is a cable laying on the floor that is routed through the panel behind the kick panel on pass side. No antennae or radio gear.

Do you have a pic of your data plate? Or can you post the codes exactly as they appear, line by line (you don't have to include the VIN if you don't want; 6x's will mark the spot!).  there are some A codes that include the radio, however I have never seen one that didn't also have the R code listed as well.  An SE without a radio would be quite unusual, but not out of the question.

Well, I am no expert by any means, but from what little I know, if the data plate did not have any of the Radio codes (R11, R22, R35) then it didn't come with a radio.  The other option was the Accessory Group A04 that included a radio, and of all the plates I have seen with A04, the R code also shows up.  you have neither.  My understanding is the data plate controls what steel panels/parts the chassis is built with.  Each code that shows up specifies a particular body panel, (i.e. H51 would indicate a firewall panel with A/C mounting and placement holes; lack of H51 would be a standard firewall), C16 would indicate that center console brackets on the floor pan were installed; lack thereof would indicate no brackets and  no console, etc.).  So no R code would indicate to me no Radio was installed, and the appropriate panel without the needed holes for the antenna were used (fender and inner cowl support).

I have never seen an E-body radio delete panel, but if what you have has the Chrysler part number and logo, then I am sure it is worth its weight in gold!

Other than that, you have a very nice 383 4bbl automatic, Lemon Twist with black hood and side stripe, Black Leather Interior, with A/C, bucket seats, and overhead console (an SE exclusive) R/T-SE.

Because they weren't into music.
They lived in areas that didn't have good reception.
Or they were just trying to save money.

AM radio was the dominamt listening then.

When my car was built It was the summer between 9-10 grade and I lived in the SF bay area. All we listened to was am radio. Favorite stations were KFRC AND KYA.
There were a bunch of nice Mopars on the base then. OK getting a little off track here.

I was lucky enough that my car still had the delete plate and the flat speaker plate that screwed in place of the speaker, I would imagine they would be hard to find.  bruce

The "WORLD FAMOUS BARRELCUDA" had a three speaker dash, dual rear speakers (with RWDefrost) and a console mounted cassette deck all connected to an AM radio.

When I asked the Newfee why he only ordered an AM and not an AM/FM.....his answer was pretty quick.....there was NO FM stations on the Island at that time.... :dupe:

The guy played in a rock band at the time so he really wanted his tunes ! :smokin:
