best carpet?
« on: September 03, 2014 - 06:06:54 PM »
I took my back seat out doing some work and saw how old my carpet is getting. I'm gonna put down a sound/heat barrier so I'll replace the carpet.
Who makes the best?
And being a former 4 speed car, do I order carpet for that or for an automatic? No console. Thanks, Greg

I prefer ACC "auto custom carpets" myself.  :2thumbs:

On the 4 speed or auto, it depends on what you currently have. The 4 speed hump is bigger so there is a difference.
If it's an automatic with an automatic hump, then get carpet for that.

Agree, ACC is hard to beat, RockAuto has great prices.

Good read, check out the plush.

Another ACC fan here.

I think that the heal pad on the ACC carpet looks closer to the original heal pad than the heal pad on the Trim Parts carpet does.

So ACC is the local fav.  Did you all opt for the poly or mass backing?  Did it make a difference with a Dynomat type deadener applied?

I didn't use the mass backing because I used the thicker carpet than original and was afraid that the mass might make it too thick.   :dunno:

Mass Backing is good, The carpet fits well with it & it's effective for heat & noise... Just an extra layer of noise damping..

I used ACC extra plush cut pile with mass backing on top of Stinger Road Kill sound deadening.  :2thumbs:
Fit well, looks great and much quieter than before.

To purchase ACC carpet did you all go direct or through RockAuto?

And the carpet that comes with the mass backing did you need to purchase any extra or was that enough for sound deadening and such?

Thanks.

Go for whom ever is cheaper.

And I didn't need to purchase extra. It comes complete ready to install, trim and make the holes for seat tracks, seat belts, shifter and dimmer switch.

I hate to assume when ordering but if your talking console shift, I'm assuming your asking console shift automatic?
I would call and have them explain their nice wording "4-speed automatic".  :clueless:
