Fuel Tank Paint ?
« on: September 10, 2014 - 05:10:21 PM »
Pulled the fuel tank today, very nice, clean inside. Surface rust outside, minor. Any suggestions on a paint ? I know they were galvanized not painted from the factory, but I want it to look nice. Thanks in advance.  :2thumbs:

Two for Eastwoods tank tone.
Used it a couple years ago on my brand new tank. I didnt like the shiny look. Here it is a couple months after painting. Its a flat look.

Get some EvapoRust.  Scrub the outside of the tank with 0000 steel wool dipped in the EvapoRust.  Once the tank is clean, either clear it or rub it down with WD-40. I would not paint it.  :2cents:  Obviously, it depends on the extent of the rust.  If it's just surface rust, then the above will work.

I decided to try the Seymour Stainless, came out very nice on a test piece. I'll put up a pic after the tank is painted.

Not sure what the finish was from the factory, but here is what the inside of a replacement tank looks like

The tank was standing on end and the camera was pointed straight down
