Work Completed Week Ending 4/24/05
« on: April 26, 2005 - 01:12:13 PM »
I know we've all been working hard on our cars getting ready for the upcoming season.  So what did you get done last week?

After starting our engine last week, we had to work on stopping some of the leaks.  We had, tranny, water, brake and steering leaks.  Is there anything left??  Anyway, we fixed the tranny leak (it was coming from the dipstick), the water (was coming from the header bolts) and have been working on the steering.  We've decided we needed a new steering gear box  :stomp:  So, out with the steering column, and off with the headers and valve cover.  Aaarrrrgh!!!  Slowly but surely we getting them all taken care of.  What a pain in the patooty!  The new gear box will go in tonight. Fun, fun, fun!

Its a damn shame that you had all those leaks, but Im glad your taking care of them. Dont let the little things discourage you, just remember that its worth it when its all done. I saw the video, I heard the engine, but I havent seen any recent pics. You should post the progress reports with pictures, because  :worthless:

As for my project, the 1/4 is still giving me problems....I hope to have it tied up with the next two weekends. Other than that, Im waiting for the seats for my old man's car, so I can drive it from storage to the garage to start working on it. Whenever I get any real progress done, Ill post up some pictures.

Wow Sweet pics 74chall!!  Your car is lookin AWESOME!!

REV I already had a feeling that it was gonna come down to pullin that out.  Sorry, hate when sh!t like that happens.  Yeah my header bolts all leaked too.  lol    Well since we had a blizzard here in Michigan over the weekend, I had to resort to working on things that could be done inside the house.  SO I got the brand new windows ready and installed all the new hardware.  Also did some part searching as there are still some things I need to track down.

Hehehe!!  Yep it was the second time around for us too!  You find these things out the hard way.  We put the thread sealant on the bolts on the passengers side and that stopped it.  So, we'll do the same when we put the header back in on the driver's side.

Pulled out the seats and carpets, repaired and readjusted the heater control cable that broke

Adjusted the passenger side window, reached in and removed some fender and trunk emblems

Took the 440 heads in to get tanked, fluxed, and then whatever else they find needing including getting the height on the Engle springs
Same shop said theyd RnR the Cam bearings in the 440 if I bring the assembled shortblock to their shop

Will be pulling the 383 and auto tranny out of car this weekend so to prepare:
Put the car up in the air,  took out the driveshaft, drained all the fluids, pulled the carb, pulled out the radiator and Fan.
gotta do the rest of the prep this week so that I dont have the engine hoist all weekend  (30$ a day to rent)

I had a radiator hose blow up and put antifreeze all over my purty engine bay about 6 months ago, so Ill be cleaning that up when the motors out.

Nice to see those pictures of progress!  Nick - wow thats fantastic looking...bet you love that flip top -- really completes the look on the back quarter!  and the be cool rad is rad dude!  I noticed your custom trans lines - they look cool.  Dave-- nice glass! our quarter glass was a little tricky to line up but we made it.  Robb you certainly get a lot done in a short time!  I didnt know you had an SE.  cool.

So someone said they wanted pics...  well I give you two below.  The first is GRAND CANYON!   :eekbig:  This was the "one step forward, eight steps back" week.  So the header is out and so is the old steering gear...  Yikes you know what a job that is! The next pic is the new gear prepped and ready for installation.  We also fixed a brake line leak.  Our Pi-thon Hoselocks should arrive tomorrow as well as our DMH servo exhuast cutouts.  So tomorrow- steering gear back in, header (with thread sealant), then column... then hopefully we are back to where we were last week!   :guitar:
