I Just saw that you have a 70 Challenger at the Place D'Orleans car show in Ottawa, I grew up in Orleans and used to attend this show religiously every Wednesday night.

Love your records and certainly interesting.

Thanks 74 challenge - I have had fun putting this stuff together. To my knowledge, no one else has been very passionate about the sunroof option. I'm a little biased - since I ran across one in a salvage yard north of town. Didn't know how few were made until I started to look around - and found very little information on them. Pulled the trigger on extracting it - but have to wait until my current project is done before I can start on it.

By the way - the FE5 Public Relations and the FC7 4-speed 1970 sunroof Challengers are both now in the hands of Alan - and he is tearing into them. Check out the progress at his website:

Additionally, I have run across enough info on a second Sunroof T/A car to confidently put it in my pamphlet. I don't have a whole lot of details on it yet, but I am confident now that it does exist. I will be adding it to the pamphlet shortly.....

Scott.

Got the FE5 car back from metal, prepping it now for the body shop and the second one is in the metal shop.

As you can see the components are coming along fast and furious :2thumbs:

Just checked your site a few days ago - awesome progress on the sunroof cars! I am glad the FF4 green car is coming your direction also. :ylsuper: Your client was also glad that he was eventually able to acquire that car. Scott.

Last night I was going through the broadcast sheet for the FF4 car....
I find it odd that ALL THREE cars are coded for odd ball options:
-Sunroof
-Door Edge Guards
-Pedal Dress-up Kit
-Rim-blow steering wheels

I always thought those were pretty rare options to find.....I guess I was wrong :faint:

This FF4 car is a 440 4bbl, 4spd, 4:10 Dana Super Trac Pak car.....green cloth/vinyl interior, green vinyl top. NO radio, NO console...but it has a six-way seat.....Odd Duck for sure...

All three cars are 14" Magnum cars as well :'(

That FF4 car looks very interesting . Alan (anlauto) do you put your restoration    jobs, back to as close as the broadcast sheet as possible. ? If they have one ?  My last question will the Door edge guards go back on ?  Or the owner doesnot care for them .Sorry about all the questions .Thank you  :aussie:

All these cars have original broadcast sheets.

My own personal cars go back to the sheet 100%. My last 71 440+6 Challenger was wearing it's factory door edge guards.

Unfortunately, as for my customer's cars....the customer gets what the customer wants... :money:

I've been told "if I find NOS door edge guards in the package.....I can leave them in the trunk...they're NOT going back on"  :screwy:

The FC7 car is going back to the sheet...
The FE5 car is dropping the V5X in favour  of V6W
The FF4 car "might" drop the V6X in favour of V6F (Ledger green)

Other then that.....I'm putting them back to the BCS as far as I know.

Great Questions :2thumbs:

Very Interesting.  I've been aware of the sunroof cars, but to see so many now popping up is pretty cool!

It's like the 1970 Coronet/Super Bee front end - seems everyone either loves it or hates it. From what I have read in the various forums, it's the same thing with the sunroof option. They are great until the seals get worn or brittle, then they leak and are a pain. The metal gear and cables would malfunction after a lot of use because the cable guides are made of softer metal and would eventually wear enough that the gear and cables would start to slip. The moving parts had to be well lubricated and taken care of. Another minus is that the sunroof is not a performance enhancer - it actually hindered performance in that it added a lot of weight to the car. Chrysler actually recommended that sunroof car owners add an extra 1 psi to the tire pressure for the added weight.

Another hindrance to popularity is the fact that there is little information out there about the power sunroof option - and also how many were produced. Over the last 20 years or so, Chrysler's internal Options and Accessories reports have surfaced in hobbyist's hands to give us a better idea of how many of a particular option was produced. The numbers for early E-bodies and early Chargers are out there on the web now, but later A, B, C, and E bodies numbers have been tough to obtain. Now that some of those production numbers are getting better established, some collectors are taking note and actively searching for some of the higher end sunroof cars. There is a couple of collectors in Canada that have at least a dozen sunroof cars between the 2 of them!

When I noticed a power sunroof car in a salvage yard north of town in 2012, I went digging for info and found very little. I found just enough to realize that I was looking at a fairly rare option - so I saved the car from an inevitable death, and started researching this little known option. In the past 4 years, I have scoured the web and have been documenting all the sunroof cars that I could find. I have also been saving any info and part numbers associated with this option for future reference. I hope to be able to establish some decent guesstimates for sunroof production on less popular models, and assist owners when they have sunroof questions.

I have added a few more cars to the 70&71 Challenger, and the 72 Barracuda sunroof pamphlets that I posted on the first page of this thread. Enjoy!

Scott.
