    How rare is this car?

    A friend of mine just picked up a 1968 Barracuda Formula S with 340 and factory sunroof, now how rare is this car, someone here know? This have been sitting in a garage for 27 years. Nearly rust free body, and Yes its here in Iceland, and talking about rare cars here in my country, we also have a 1971 Dodge Charger Superbee 440 Sixpack 4-speed airgrabber car, 1 of 30 4-speeds produced.

    I did not know that factory sunroofs were available in 68? I've seen 69 chargers with them, and I have a 70 challenger R/t factory sunroof car sitting in my barn right now ( I believe 82 built). That said, any factory sunroof car is rare.

    Hi guys/girls . new guy here'   , I thought you could only get a factory sunroof in a Barracuda/Cuda in 1972.

    Yes, for E bodies....  Not sure about A bodies....  There is an A body website.  If anyone would know, they would.

    and 70TR440shaker -- saw your plumcrazy ride for the first time last night... WOW!  If we had a white interior we probably would have chosen that color combo!  Beautiful!

    Never heard of an A-Body with a factory sunroof until the Dusters & Dart Sports. Those had the canvas type as well as the solid ones. There have been people who converted non sunroof cars with a donor roof & it will definitely look factory if done correctly. One that comes to mind is Pete Veight's white Superbird. He had a sunroof Charger that was a total mess, & a Superbird that needed a roof. He did such a nice job it looked like it came that way.

    There's more people who would know for sure, but I'm almost positive it didn't exist.  :???:

    Is the '68 an original export car?  If I remember, there were a couple of European companies that would add sunroofs to American export cars.

    FWIW, on E-body Cudas/Challengers, my order code lists show that the factory sunroof option (code M51) was only available on 1970 and 1971 Challengers and not available on any 1970 to 1974 Cuda.  Anybody have a Cuda with factory sunroof/ever seen one?  I would assume they would have the M51 code on the fender tag.

    Not to debunk the good book, but unless I've been in a fog, I never saw a sunroof on a 70-71 Challenger. Someone here recently posted pictures of their 72 Challenger with one though.

    I have seen all 3 years with this option and own a 72 Challenger under giong a major facelift, the code was not on any of the fender tags of the cars, from what I have found out was that it was flagged for it on the broadcast sheet,as far as a Cuda have not seen one yet,but never say never

    sunroofs was offered on ebodys all 4 years 70-74 On an abody im pretty sure hemi71 is right it started it 69 and ended in 76 with the dartsports!! 68 formulas might have had em but I dont think so!!! my have been later installed!!

    As far as I know ,,,you could get a sunroof in all challenger model years,,,The 1971 r/t I had  code M51 did not appear on the fender tag .
    But on the inner fender tag , right beside the build date,theres the car order code ,,mine started with G001xx, well that G001XX told you that the car was sunroof eqipped ( atleast for 1971 )
    confusing I know..
    Does any 1 else have this G code on their fender tag  ????
    I did check last night and 1972 that the Barracuda /Cuda was the only year that offered a code M51 ( sunroof )  
    As far as for being an export car,,,you just never know. take care   426

    Here are some pics of the 70 Challenger R/T factory sunroof car i have in my barn....and a shot of the fender tag. Notice it's a two tag car, almost all of these sunroof e-bodies are loaded to the gills with options..they were expensive cars.

    The workmanship of the installers of the sunroof was pretty bad....terrible welds, and they just hacked the car apart to fit the sunroof. All these e- bodies had vinyl roofs to help hide the hack job, buy notice the fender tag does not have the vinyl top called out. they were built as painted top cars, and the vinyl top was added at the time of the sunroof installation. They also used some cheesy stick on trim for the vinyl top....no studs for the vinyl top like the factory cars had.

    hey hemi71, thanks for the photo of the inside, I have to agree with you on the install job they did back in the day, mine does look slightly different ,My car was tagged for vinyl top so it has the pins & holes for the trim.
