I know this subject has been
over the years on this website, but.........
440 in a 71 Cuda.
I just measured the 71 OEM intake height I had been running, vs the new E brock intake I now have
Measurements:
4.5 " for the factory intake
E- brock is at 5.5"
So far, only a 1.0" dif
Now consider I have been running a 1/2" phelonic spacer on my factory intake, (w/FAST FI body). Keep in mind that the FAST FI body is the same height as a Holley, so no carb height issues here)
So now we are down to only a 1/2" height dif, the E brock intake being higher by 1/2" than the factory intake
Ok, so........With my factory intake, the clearance between the shaker rubber and the inside of the hood has always, at least to me, been a little large.
Understanding that there does need to be wiggle room for the shaker to move on the underside of the hood, I still have a fairly large gap. Enough so that there is not a very good water seal between the shaker rubber seal and the underside of the hood
Not really knowing how firm a seal that the shakers had to begin with from the factory back in the day (I am sure there were allot of variables, even when new), I'm thinking my e brock intake that will close the gap some, and non shaker hoods prob wont have clearance probs either
But then again, condition of motor mounts and their isolaters, (rubber vs ploy) , and other slight variables could make a height dif as well, plus or minus
Thoughts, experiences?
