What was the original color of the 1972 Challenger grill? Year One has it as silver.
Thanks.

It depends on the model. The standard Challengers came with a gray grill.(72-74) It wasn't painted. The grill was molded in gray plastic. The 72 Challenger Rallye and the 73-74 Challengers with the Rallye "package" came with black grills. The grill wasn't painted. The grill was molded in black plastic.

Sounds good. Black it is. Also just saw the black color on an original 72 Rallye in a 72 catalog. Hope my paint guy can paint it black. After 42 years it no longer is a true black.
Thanks.

Lightly scuff the plastic and mist it with SEM Trim Black. It will look new. No need to spend the money to have someone else do it. Also, the 72 Rallye cars had a black painted tail panel. The exact opposite of all other 72-74 Challengers.

ONLY 72 Challenger Rallyes were painted this way.

That's the way my 74 Rallye is but my car is black and it was originally yellow. So the 74s were originally silver tail panel with black light pockets?

Yeah the rear is already done in black. Painter is a pretty good guy and I doubt he'll charge me for this but if he wants to I'll go the SEM trim black route. Thanks.

Thanks Darren.
Is that your purple 71 Hemicuda convertible beside the blue Challenger? Have you been holding out on us?

That was originally a 318 car that someone put a Hemi in. The blue car looked like it might be original paint. The argent on the tail panel was definitely original. That was a 318 car too.
