Interesting take on 71 Cuda value
« on: September 26, 2014 - 01:10:59 PM »

Caught an episode of "Whats my car worth" which I don't normally watch because they usually have cars I could care less about.

But this episode had a segment where viewers can send in pics and find out the value.

The viewer sent in pics of a 71 Cuda 340 4 speed and with a rotisserie resto they valued the car at 35k - everything on the car was original.

I know this might deflate some folks based on what they are trying to sell but maybe this is the new norm?

Or maybe the appraisers on the show don't know as much as they think they do.... :screwy:   :grinno:

I kinda thought the same thing at first.

But when they ask each person what they think there call will sell for - like the Olds 442 which the guy said he will get 130k at auction was very wrong and the number actually reached was 77k which was closer to what the host said it would be.

Seems like a soft market which is what I'm getting at.

And the cars are being valued for auction.  There is a difference.

Auctions are a good representation of average values.

If you want to hold out for 15 years and get your price that is an entirely different conversation.

I was thinking more like They Will Have To Pry It From My Cold Dead Fingers.   :roflsmiley:

Everything is worth no more than what someone is willing to pay for it. I know most folks cant restore a car like that for less than 40k unless it was in really great shape to start with or the restorer can do 100% of the work himself.

I'm getting ready to restore an RT Challenger soon and I expect it to cost 40k. If someone showed me the exact same car restored to perfection for 45k, I'd seriously consider it because I could sell my project for a big chunk of money and come out way ahead in the end.

Point is, the opinions of these so called experts are no better than anyone else. Those guys are stoned if they think I can walk out on any given day and buy that car in that condition for that price. I just turned down 26k for my 70 Bee and while it's very nice, it's not perfect. A pinnacle car like that will sell a lot higher than my Bee. What they should be saying is, "If you were forced to make a quick sale, you might have to settle for 35k."

I do think things have softened, like the housing market has. But notice that only people who must sell are selling in both the housing and classic car markets. Everyone else is holding tight waiting for better days.

if anyone out there wants to prove me wrong by selling me a perfectly restored 71 Cuda, numbers matching 340 stick car, I'll happily admit I'm wrong, plunk down my money and drive off into the sunset in that beauty

The issue is  some people do not know what restored means.Restored means every piece was returned or replaced to new condition. The term "restored' is used so loosely with some sellers.

No doubt there....the word restored is thrown around way too much. 71 Cudas, especially 4 spd versions are top in my book for Mopars. Any muscle car really in my opinion. I hope to own one someday before I get too old to enjoy it. I have to call BS when I hear people say nice original ones are only worth mid 30s (and could readily be had at that price). A decent driver perhaps but not one that is truly nice. If it was, I'd sell off my finished Bee and RT Challenger project and have money left over to put in the bank. Haha

Please let me know where you can buy a 'driver ' quality 71 340 Cuda with a 4 speed.
I would buy every 'restored' 71 Cuda for $35,000.

Any sellers here?

The section on that show is pure crap.  How they can tell the worth of anything with just a few pics sent to them is like saying, "I saw a picture of the Grand Canyon,  so  now I know what its like to actually be there

There is a section of that show that lately has been poignant.

The seller thinks his car is work market price + 40% and the host is usually closer to reality when it goes to auction.

Apparently everyone thinks their car price is still at 2007 prices.
