I am with moparatt on this one. I say build a 340 for the car. But do you want a car with bone crushing acceleration then go for the 440 or do you want a nice crusier with some nice pickup when you need it. Then go for a 340. Also we are all talking about value here do you have the intention of selling it. If I had that car I doubt I would. It would also be cool to keep it as a 6 because we all have seen a pile of big block convertables, but when was the last time you saw a slant 6 one.

Welcome, and that already is a sharp car, the color combo, and being a vert. is a sweet find indeed. I'll only say that first you need to do a little investagation here. If currently the car just happens to be an orginal matching numbers car, personally ( as much as I love big blocks ) I'd restore the babe just the way she came from the factory. If this is not a matching numbers car, then man I'd give the drive train away and build a monster 440 6pk. In the Mopar world the last recomendation could only be superceeded by of course the HEMI. But by all means maintain the color combo, that is the ultimate in a vert. ! So do some home work and check out some numbers, then go to work. :thumbs: The car has the rallye hood, I'd have to say that is odd on a /6 model, so just that alone puts your car in the realm of rariety. It appears to have been a customer order car, I doubt a dealer would order a car for his lot the way you describe this one.

I guess my first question is �. . . what kind of budget are you working with?? �I have a 76 440 wasting space in the garage, where are you located?? �As REV said . . . I also am building a purple and white convert. �Plus mine was also a /6 car when I started but I didn't have the original engine so my choice was pretty easy!! �440 Big Block! �I also added a shaker hood, changed the interior from black to white, and added a few other goodies. �Sounds like you have a sweet start to a great car!! �Stick around and have some fun!! �

Thanks for all the help guys and girls. It is numbers matching. The flip cap, rallye hood, wheels, wheel mouldings were added later. It's been in the barn behind it for 20 years. Paid $3k for it and the guy also has a 440 4-sp 1970 GTX complete that he wants $3K for. I'm trying to get that deal put together also, I'm just a little tapped right now as I just spent 3 years and mucho dinero building a 69 mustang fastback 351C w/ 5-spd. Plus I just kicked my wife's truck out of the garage for the challenger, and she's not real excited about me draggin a 3rd car home. But I'm working on her. Thanks again, Suburbob
