At what point did the change from a phillps head to the hex head ? I know in 1971 they were hex head, but I'm also aware that in 70 they were phillps.

I agree but late 70 did get hex, don't know what time frame the change occurred but my R/T SE had hex... It's SPD is 723
And the proper hex screw has a shoulder like the phillips in example 1...
