I plan on buying the 440 source heads, $1,200. new pistons around $400. Comp cam extreme energy and lifters. Mopar dual plane intake, 750 quik fuel technologies carb. All of this will be under a shaker hood and scoop. Do the 1.6 rockers used in that article require a lot of adjusting?

Well, heads $1200, pistons $400, cam kit $250, new intake $225, Quick fuel carb $400, adjustable rockers $400, total outlay in just these parts = $2875. Your over budget already and you haven't even begun to include cleaning, machining, gaskets, fasteners, and rod recondition.

A $2k rebuild is going to be pretty bare bones. I'd venture a guess to say for $2k, you get new pistons and boring, valve guides  installed, valve seats ground, recon the rods, maybe a new cam to match the compression ratio of your new pistons, and re-use everything else.

Yes you are right I checked the rod bearings and the main bearings and the bore.  The mains look like brand new. rod bearings have a little wear. The plan is to reuse the main bearings. Buy new rod bearings. Rehone cylinder walls to knock off the small amount of glazing. I might bust the budget some with the 440 source heads. 1200$ I gotta have them.

Here is where it is costing extra because it is an RV motor. Oil pan 95, oil pickup tube 20 windage trey 33. Comp cams break in oil 36 full gasket set 130.  total 2,316. Yeah I know I'm little over. I just had to have those aluminum heads.

I replaced the water pump on mine too, with a nice aluminum unit. The stock pump weighed 26 pounds.

The bearings "Look Ok" is not the way to go.  Plastigage the bearings to ensure they are in spec  This is not the time to even guess if stuff is in spec while the motor is apart.  Guessing or assuming really sucks when the motor had to come out and come apart.  Do everything right, not by eyeball

Oh yeah, I bought some micrometers and calipers. Measured bore for taper and out of roundness. Micro metered the rods and mains at 90* intervals to check for out of roundness. I also bought some Plastigage  for the final assembly. Here are the pistons  and the cam specs.    http://i1198.photobucket.com/albums/aa457/blk08vert/cuda/077640x480_zps6834d3ed.jpg[/IMG]
