I bought new 2013 v8 challenger dual fan assembly and fitted it to my -73 challenger with 383 and griffin aluminium radiator. I had to make some smallish cuts into the shroud for both upper and lower rad hoses but other than that it went in quite easily. It seems to pull quite a lot of air and I am very satisfied. Last summer i was mainly running with only one fan in use.

The griffing rad I have is something like 27" x 16" if I recall right.

That's good to know.  I plan on talking with Griffin on Monday.  First to see if they can re-core my existing radiator or if I have to by a new one.  Second is to see what the recommend for a electric fan for a 500+ HP motor.

Basically I found the more amps the motor draws the better the fan. Low amp fans do not move air.  Then the next problem is your alternator capacity. It won't be enough! I killed my battery this summer driving to Carlisle ( 8 hour drive) I got about an hour and a half remaining and I had to get another battery on the road to finish the trip. I had a supposedly 95 amp alternator on there and it couldn't keep up. I rigged in a toggle switch to ground to make it home. I turned it off while on the hwy to charge the battery.

 but if you go that route I'd suggest a new clutch, they are cheap enough. Here is the shorter Jag clutch if you need the extra 3/4" of clearance

At this point no.... I liked the idea of electric fans but after 2 different set ups and an expensive alternator to power them I've yet to find one that works for me.The last one the fan controller crapped out and left me on the side of the road wiring the fan direct to the battery.
 I have a healthy 451" and around town ( moving with airflow) and on the hwy it was fine. It's sitting at the border crossing going to Carlisle or in traffic it gets too hot.

I've installed many electric fans over the years, as long as they are wired correctly thru a relay I've never had an issue. I always use the ground side of the relay to trigger it.

Have a radiator shop check out the damage on the radiator core. Part of the beauty of aluminum is its repairability.

   WOW!  That could have been much worse....

I have been running a 26" Bee-Cool radiator with electric fans for about 10 years with no issues. It stays cool  -  even cooling a little over 800 ponies in the southern summers...

I had fan blow up on my first car, a Buick. Yours is only the second I've ever heard of. If it cooled well before, I'd go back to that setup.

I had electric fans once. I was very disappointed. Going down the road, they basically block your radiator requiring they run constantly, draining massive power. I could take them off and go down the road with no fan and it cooled great at speed but add the electric fans and it would heat up until they turned on. They sure worked good in traffic though, running constantly though.
