I spoke with Griffin today (great customer service) and here is what the recommend for a Big Block Mopar with A/C.

Still on the fence between electric and mechanical.....leaning more towards mechanical.....as the price of the electric unit they recommend is  :22yikes:.

hey, someone on here told me to look up Mark7 rads in Michigan. I talked to them and he told me the rad he would build for me would keep it cool in any conditions. they look well built and real nice.  thx Bruce

I think that you mean Mark 8. That one pulls insane amounts of air and has two speeds. It drains close to 40 amps at full speed so alternator needs to be uppgraded. Only problem is that it wont fit into challenger because of the water pump. Mark VIII fan is something like 13 inches thick and with my Griffin rad and stock water pump there is room for something like 11 inches. How do I know? Well I bought new mark viii fan without first measuring the available space and now I have one sitting in my shelf in the carage  :banghead:

Luckily I have mark viii as a daily driver so I now have a spare fan if the one in the car ever quits

hey kapteennikosmos, mark 7 actually build radiators. check out the big block replacement here. they say it will cool 700 hp in 100 degree weather with the AC on. http://www.mark7radiators.com/polished-aluminum-radiator.shtml

Griffins have some of the same fitment issues.  They do not post detail drawings (proprietary information) online, but the gave me the measurements.  You need a minimum of 6.5 inches of clearance, not including radiator,  behind each fan motor.  Which this set up has two, luckily offset from center.  I need to measure my clearance.

They also stated that their system can cool up to 700 hp.  I NEVER had any cooling issues with the setup I was running, that is the main reason I am leaning on going back that way.  As for electrical fans, the main reason behind my thinking was NOT to have the explosion happen again.  After hearing some of the issues with electrical fans I am leaning away from them.

P.S. Griffin says that if a cooling tube is broken (mine is) it will cost just as much if not more to replace/fix the core.  :stomp:

Since you're in the razzing mood, if you don't know who Bill is then how do you know he likes everything blue? Just sayin'  :poopoke:

Because Ron just clarified which Bill he was referring to... & I happen to know just who he was speaking of... :stirpot:

This happened to a buddy of mine with a 65 fastback Mustang.  He only had like 500 miles on the rebuild.  It put one of the fan blades through his hood, so it could have been much worse!!

Need to double check all the bolts and nuts are tight more than once in a while.

When this thread started by Vertman, I decided to check mine.
A few were getting loose. Might want to use Locktite.

I could be wrong but if I remember right, the mopar performance 5 blade fan moves more air than the original 7 blade fan. :2cents:

I agree Mike, when I replace mine that is my plan.  I took a close look at the fan this weekend to see if I could determine why it came apart. All four bolt holes are ripped apart/torn open, none are ob-longed, so it could very well be that one or more of the bolts became lose.

Good to know, all the after market fans I have been looking at only come in 5 or 6 blade and from 16, 18, and 19 inch.

That was the claim from MP back when they were selling them, yet I solved marginal low speed cooling issues on three cars by keeping the MP fan clutch & swapping to a 216 seven bladed fan
