Trans stalling engine?
« on: April 28, 2005 - 07:26:39 AM »
Well... everything was good to go, or so I thought to pull her out of the garage... however, we have one problem that I'm not sure what's wrong.... The car runs great in Park or Neutral, but as soon as we hit a gear (any drive gear), the rear wheels will turn for about 3/4 of a turn, then the engine dies out.... I'm thinking that I just need to let the trans fluid work it's way through the trans some more... or there's something else wrong... any ideas?? :gripe: :dontknow: :dontknow:

it could just be tuning & the engine doesn`t like the load or the converter could have a problem & be locking too low

This happened in my most recent project.  The transmission was engaging two gears at once (even in reverse).  Wound up replacing the tranny.
On yours, does it also stall if you give it a little throttle while holding the brakes and pulling it into gear?  That would rule out the tuning/converter stall speed issues.  If it still stalls immediately when engaging while revving/braking, then I would suspect trans issues.
