71 cuda shaker
« on: August 03, 2002 - 03:11:44 PM »
I have a 71 383 4sp cuda and was wandering if any of you folks could answer a question for me. I remember reading years ago that 501 were 383 4sp and 10% were black. Does any one know how many were shaker cars?
I asked Galen a few years back and at that time he said he had no info on that. Is that something he now keeps track of?
Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

SHAKER HOOD NOTES:

Shaker hoods were standard on all Hemi'Cudas, Optional on Hemi Challengers.
Challenger Shakers had production line problems in 1970.
Only cars ordered in FE5 Ralley Red had body coloured bubbles.
All others were 5X8 Black Organsol, or DA1 Astrotone Silver.
By the end of 1970, EB5 Blue was available for B5 Blue cars.
It is uncertain how it was possible to specify silver or black.
For 1971, Barracudas could be ordered with Shakers for $94.00
On 383 4bbl cars only. None were produced.

Chacuda,

No, there is no further info. other than what Galen might have told you, paint color percentages are only approximations, no official documentation was ever produced. I can tell you one thing, there are more Shaker Hood Cuda's running around these days than there ever was back when they were new..... thanks to guys like me building clones ;D

Thanks for the info.
Sixpack, I check out the link you posted. The problem is, my cuda is a 383 4 sp N96 car. I don't have the orig motor, but have data tag. I never found the broadcast sheet. I have owned the car since 89 and the title and od say 39,000. It was missing the hood when I got the car but it still has the cable for the shaker.
It is a real odd ball. It has no options but hood, road lamps and rallye dash.
Do you guys think it would be worth contacting Galen again on this car? You have really peaked my interest in finding out how many are like it now. Or is it like Badhemi said "no further info".
Thanks again for the info

Chacuda,

If your car can be documented as original I believe you will have the only one known to exist!  YES! Contact Galen IMMEDIATELY!  :oHe will take interest in the car I assure you. He can be slow to react because he's busy and the Mopar Nationals are this week, but he'll get back to you.

Send me some pics of the car if you can, the fender tag, underhood, interior, etc. I'd like to see it.

Thanks,
Scott ;D

Looks real to me, neat car! I did some research today and found that i was wrong, there are quite a few known 71 Cuda 383's with shakers, it's the 1970's that are the oddballs. Sorry about that. In any event, a black big block shaker 71 Cuda is a rare car, I'd love to own that one!  :)  I don't have any other info concerning production numbers but galen is your best hope for new info if any exists.

Here is a website that lists Shaker production #'s but it is not broken down by color, hope it helps!  http://www.homestead.com/REDLINEHOMEPAGE/profigE.html

Sorry SixpackCuda,

Not trying to "Steal your thunder"  :)I must have missed that little detail in your post.

 ChaCuda,

I have been told there are several bits of bad info. on that site, don't swear by it, use it as a guide as  it's only  "generally" correct info. Bottom line? Your black 383 4speed Shaker 71 Cuda is a rare car, I wish it were mine :)

Did some research a few years back. Mines a 71 shaker hood 383 cuda. Not many 71s were 383s with a shaker hood. I have 2 build sheets, fender tag. All numbers matching . Original engine and tranny. When i turned a picture of my build sheet into the Cuda registry the guy that runs it freaked. Said he had never heard of the car. Your 71 Cuda is rare indeed as very few REAL 383 shaker hoods were made. She's a keeper even if you have to restore it.
