C body diff to B Bdoy size conversion
« on: October 24, 2014 - 06:16:24 AM »
Ok, due to B Body differentials being rare as out here in  :aussie:, and my need to fit 18 x 11's under the back of my 73 cuda I have been able to pick up localy a C Body housing and axles. I want to shorten the housing to basically a B Body length, I cant use the C Body axles so I will try and locate some quality axles in time. the question is, do I simply take off equal amounts from both sides of the housing until I get the length I need? Then I asume if I match a B Body length then Axles will be easier to get hold of.

the 8 3/4 axles are equal length so yeah cut the same amount off both ends & weld the ends back on , straight is best so use a jig .
My question is what C body diff are u using ? most had a 9 1/4" diff
If you are going to that much trouble why not find a Dana 60 from a ford truck & weld new ends on it , some years used a non floater axle , you might be able to get those resplined & redrilled for the right bolt pattern too

CP, its out of a 67 Dodge Phoenix which is kind of an Australian built car so its a bit wierd,,,,, anyway, since the last 6 hours have passed, I now have in my hands 2 x B body housings, 44" spring perch and flange to flange is 55.393" (1407mm)  :bananasmi. So, now all I should need is std B Body length axles and a set of 1" spring offset kits from Cass at Dr Diff and Im good to go!! Dont have to bother with shortening any housing BS, I'll try and sell the so called C body diff complete i bought last night, never rains it pours as they say, Dana's are rare out here, not many if any commercial trucks come in from the US to Australia, most come from Japan etc.
