70 or 71 rear valance on 73 Barracuda?
« on: October 24, 2014 - 10:39:01 PM »
What all is needed or involved in replacing a rear valance from a 73 Barracuda, to a cleaner look of a 70 or 71.  Not a fan of the bulged valance on the 73.  I plan to use Amd 70 bumper brackets and rear bumper.

Are you talking about the valance where the exhaust tips go through?   :clueless:

All are pretty much the same except for minor details and exhaust cut outs or no cut outs.

Yes. This is my first rebuild of an E-body.  It appears the 73 valance has a much wider and larger bulge around the rear spring and 5mph bumper pad, than the 70-71 style valance.  I was planning to order the 70 bumper brackets and bumper already.  So I want to make sure what else it would take to use a 70 valance.

I was under the impression that they are all the same . . . . other than some have cut-outs and some don't as stated above.   :dunno:

That is good.  I thought I recalled, years ago seeing something that the larger bulge area on the later cars had something to do with clearing the springs?   Heck I can't remember what I did last week most of the time so I am sure I probably got it all messed up on what would work or not.  :dunno:

Nice project.

What's the history/tags/build sheet?

I bought the car in about 2006, or so?  It came from Dallas (Preston dealership) and was last tagged in 1986. It has  been stored inside ever since I bought the car.   It was missing motor, trans, front buckets and console set-up.  Bought seats, console and linkage parts here and there along the way.  Decided to build a mild 360 and get the car running and driving.  Motor and trans are about ready so I decided to have the engine compartment painted before the motor goes in.   Well.......... :clueless:  somewhere between the brake booster being removed and the blower motor.  I decided to just do it all.  Figured if not.  I would get it running and then want to take it back apart to do it right.   :pullinghair:   So....here we go!  :2thumbs:

There was a sheet behind the back seat.  However it was missing a top section where the VIN would have been.  So I can't say it was even for this car.  Being a 318 car...oh well it is not going to make or break anything.  The car will go back yellow but I just can't get excited about a white stripe.  The red and blue cars look great with the white side stripe.  But yellow and white is just a bit bright for my tastes.  I really want to add the AAR look (hood, stripes and spoilers).  But I know some local "Mopar guys" would harass me forever for that.  So I am thinking just yellow with the black 73 stripe, call it good. IFFFFF the car was a dark green car with green interior I would go back purple with white interior and make my own version of a 73 AAR.  But........yellow it is.

That's a cool car!
don't worry about the local mopar guy bugging you about the aar cloning.  You will get way more positive comments compared to the one guy.
Do what you want with the car!
