Passenger side door latch assembly wanted
« on: November 01, 2014 - 09:29:55 PM »
I wrestled with mine today and it just won't go into lock position by the rod or the key.
Must be going bad.

Looking for one in decent shape.

Send a PM if you have a lead on one.

The difference is in the way they lock. 1970 are unique because they had to be locked from the outside using the key only. In 1971-74 you could just lock the door using the inside lever as you got out, and simply close the door and it would lock.
I've taught you everything you know.....but I haven't taught you everything I know !

I suspected it would be 70' that was the odd one year type.

It may not be a defective or worn part but rather the rods are incorrectly installed.  If you have the rods connecting the key lock mechanism incorrectly installed, it will not permit the key to operate properly.

It's easy to install them incorrectly.

The inside door lock will go into the lock position but the door doesn't lock.
Also the key won't put the lock into lock position. With the rod disconnected it moves fine.

Perhaps it's my door striker is off?

Check for the rods binding.  They run close to some of the window hardware.  If they aren't in the exact right spot, they can rub/bind.  I know Jules used to restore those.  I think his brother has taken over the business.  Maybe PFM does them now too?
