:wavingflag: :swear: Well, more crappy news, I pulled the base off of of my engine and quickly discored the builder slid me the old salami. He used stock rods not I beam, the crank was not forged but a cast 360 crank with the mains turned .020 over and rod .010 over so it would fit. and the pistons were some old forged TRWs for a 030 over bore. then I pulled out the bore gauge and WOW!!! None of the bores were the same they ranged from 027 all the way to 038...he technically got the displacement right but nothing else .so the block is off for a .040 bore and I ordered a TON of new parts which I will assemble myself this time. new h-beam rods p/n CRS6123C3DL19, a new 4340 forged crank with a 4 inch stroke p/n 434040006123, a healthy set of Icon diamond forger pistons for a .040 bore, a nice lunati voodoo cam p/n 10200703, and a new satin black rpm air gap intake p/7576. I have not decided on valves yet ....any suggestions????????

:wavingflag: Well todays project finished, all interior seams are now sealed and inside is ready for some lizardskin and paint.  also had to do some tweaking and a little chop and weld, but the rear valence now fits like a glove. !!!! :working: :working:

I think putting the plugs  in after paint is the correct way , then the bodyplug hole edge will be sealed with primer and paint ... But.... :2cents:

If you lizard skin the holes you may have heck of a time getting them in (even with the soap trick, thanks! alan)

I would prime paint,  plug and , then lizard skin ..or....  I might try masking the plug holes with round patches of masking tape  then put the plugs in after or mask the top of the plugs  after you install them  (put tabs  on the tape so once the lizard skin is done ,pull the tape , if you wait youll have a bi...h of a time .. The idea of the plug is to seal and if the dont mate to the lizard skin or go in crooked they wont seal .

Sorry for the long winded idea.

:wavingflag: Ok I got the big dents out of the trunk lid and installed it. The gaps at the rear are ok but the trouble I had with the 1/4s is now rearing its ugly head. I was thinking about cutting the weld on the corners of the trunk gutter and wrapping around both quarters with a ratchet strap and squeezing them a little closer.      What do you guys think????  I am just worried about warping the quarter panels. :feedback: :feedback: :feedback:

Is your  issue at the dutchman panel?

It looks from the pics it is kicking your quarters out  ..

I dont see easy way besides major surgery.. Again its hard to tell from the pics .. Can you take a pic  like a square overhead shot to tell the exact oriantation  of the decklid to the quarter edges?

:banghead: Yeah. the panel was a bit wide and I puled and twisted and I thought I had it even but when I measure now there is a 1/4 inch difference between the front and back side  of the opening. I am just not sure what to do and the gap is wide enough I will never be happy with it

Well i think if you get the dutchman out :banghead: :banghead:  and free up your welds at the trunk gutter you might be able to walk the  quarter in at those gaps ... Major surgery. Sorry

Or you can do something like that like this:::  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=s-gg4bo26kI

Start watching at 5:25.   See how he pulls the door gap in by sectioning metal..  Youve got the skills !!

Cutting and sectioning might be less time ... :banghead: in

If it was me i would  pull the window ,pull the dutchman, free all the welds on the quarter top  from the window to the edge of the trunk , pull the quarters in to close the trunk gap  with the decklid in place , weld the quarter  and  work on that dutchman length..... Take your extra leangth out of the dutchman in the middle so you keep the factory ends  , its gonna suck... Thats my opinion and maybe someone can give you more ideas. Good luck sir

If you are OK with the quarter spacing and edge lines you can add material to the trunk lid sides to bring in the gaps.

How did the tail panel line up?  To me it would seem that trying to pull in the quarters would not give you what you need as the Dutchman would limit that.  Also looks like to remove the Dutchman  would require lots of cutting and reewelding.  I guess my concern is the tail panel fit.   The trunk lid could have metal added to close up the gap but if all that is too wide.....then there goes the tail panel and tail light assembly too. And the bumper will not be long enough either!    :pullinghair:

:wavingflag: the tail panel fell right into place. I think I am going to have to cut the Dutchman loose to fix it right. I just hate rework
