From what I recall, most of the controversy was from a member who wouldn't stop criticizing the appearance of the unfinished roof line. Dave repeatedly told him that the roof was not finished and would look correct when everything was complete. I guess some people feel the need to criticize others when they are getting attention for doing something this unique in the Mopar world.
Here are a few pictures I grabbed of the door gaps from the other thread. The doors had to be fabricated from scratch so there were no factory specifications to follow. Dave said he used a feeler gauge throughout the entire perimeter of the openings to make sure the gaps were consistent between all of the panels. So far so good it seems. All I know is that I would NEVER have undertaken something as large as this!
First, I'll agree 100% on this.....I wouldn't undertake something this large either.
I would consider myself a master craftsman, if I could come close to this level of work. Dave is very lucky to have found someone who could craft metal for him to this level. I can't recall his name, I know Dave mentioned it over on the Charger site thread before he deleted it. If you recall his name, would be great to post it with his accomplishment. He certainly deserves the recognition.
As to the controversy....IIRC, wasn't about anyone's need to criticize a custom car......but more about VIN tags, and door stickers made to reflect the "now" equipment on the car.
Dave assured us it all legal, that he had permission from the proper authorities, to produce an altered to reflect the new equipment[engine, trans, etc] a VIN tag and door sticker. Personally, I don't understand how he could work that.....but I'll take Dave at his word that's it's legal to do that.
It's certainly understandable many [myself included] were very concerned about the "new" tag......there's a lot of fake tags, and people have been burned by fakes and rebodies passed off as the real thing. A very spirited discussion, more then one ego......some reference to Ethel Merman and her cat....that part was pretty funny.....
Better just focus on the car......hope pic's keep being posted.....would definitely like to see the end result.
