I'd be curious how they do the door panels.

I didn't read the whole thing again but was wondering what color they are planning to paint the 4 door?   :clueless:

Pretty sure it was going to be red with a black vinyl top.

Wow now that I see the completed side profile, that car needs the top chopped.

I don't see how the top needs to be chopped.  It looks comparable to other 4 door bodied cars with the addition of a more sloped back C post.  Lets face it, all 4 door cars will have to share a similar characteristic for the rear C post which has to be modified for ease of getting in and out of the back of the car.  The car that Dave and company is building actually seems to have more of a fast back characteristic than what a typical 4 door car would have.

taken from another site:

"Thanks Brian! I noticed you posted some of these pictures on the CC.com Forum and someone said the roof needed to be "chopped". That guy must not understand the engineering variations that exist between a 2 Door Hardtop and a 4 Door Sedan. (He should probably be more concerned with the incorrect side striping on his Convertible Challenger.)

You can't have a 4 Door with the same "fastback" appearance of a 2 Door Model. If the Body lines around a 4 Door C Pillar were angled like a 2 Door, the person getting into the car would hit their head when entering. There would not be sufficient room for climbing into the back of the vehicle.

Below are some comparison photos to illustrate the point. Notice the B Body 2 & 4 Door design. The 4 Door Satellite's Roof-line looks taller than the 2 Door version to accommodate clearance for a Passenger to enter the back seat. We actually narrowed the top of the custom C Pillar to give our 4 Door a more "fastback" appearance. For what we accomplished, our 4 Door profile is not as square and tall looking as the "real" 4 Door vehicles that Chrysler built."

2 door vs. 4 door B -body :

2 door vs. "4" door E-body:

If ANYTHING, the E body comparison shows how much the rear window roof line angle MATCHES the actual 2 door body version compared to the different angle the B body 4 door has vs. the 2 door body version.

at 1st I wasn't sure I liked the roofline either, but seeing the side by side comparisons helped flip it for me. can't wait to see the final product! this is one heck of project for sure, major kudos to the builders

More I see the less I like now. You do notice how awfully straight the door frames are in the B pillar area right? Those pics illustrate how the production vehicles were leaned rearward a little
Just make it look like a 10 gallon hat on a midget to me. Sorry, it's a cool project and a lot of talent to create it that I can appreciate. Each to their own.

From what I remember, the door frames on the car started out as 1971 B Body Coronet.  The slight tilt was only used for certain B Body cars.  The substructure of a 1971 Coronet was used because it was the closest body style that could be converted into this 4 Door Barracuda.  Look at the brown Satellite that was posted earlier in the thread which I attached above.  It too has the B Pillars that run straight up and down with no rearward tilt.

It's an interesting experiment, but one that will likely produce the same conclusion that Chrysler ultimately ended up with when/if it was being considered.  With the short wheelbase on E-bodies, there really isn't enough room to accommodate 4 doors.  Looking at the profile of this car it becomes pretty clear (to me, at least) that the functional requirements (e.g. not hitting your head while getting in or out) seriously impact the desired aesthetics, or intended flow of the cars design.  The leading edge of the C-pillar appears to be fighting the trailing edge.  The only practical compromise would be to increase the wheelbase, which would essentially be a Coronet.

One of a kind, for sure.  Good job on the metalwork.  I certainly couldn't have done it.

The wheelbase does not need to be compromised because they built the vehicle to the original specifications of a Coronet.  The wheelbase of this 4 door project is 118" long which is the exact same as the Coronet.  It is 10" longer than the 1970 Barracuda wheelbase of 108" and 8" longer than the 1970 Challenger which is 110" long.  Below are the overall length dimensions.

1970 Barracuda/Cuda - 188" in Length
1970 Challenger - 191.5" in Length
1970 Barracuda 4 Door Concept - 196" in Length

WIll be cool if the rear windows would go down all the way, but I don't see how it could.

Sure hope they put on some kind of sport hood on there, like a Shaker or at least a raisin bran hood.  Even better, make it a T/A clone four-door.

I find the effort and talent shown to do this is impressive. Those guys have some mad skills. :worshippy
But I have never seen a four door car (of any make) that I actually liked. They are more utilitarian. Back in 70-74 I never would have bought a four door 'cuda, Challenger, or Charger. If the two door versions weren't available, I'd would have bought a Mustang.
Just my opinion.  :2cents:

I think the reason the rear windows never went down all the way was because of the curvature for where the rear wheel was for the rear door.  I've also heard it was a "child safety" thing that Chrysler did because if the windows went all the way down, it would have been easier for a child to fall out the window.  I'd sooner believe it had to do with the contour of the door though.

At least this 'CUda four-door doesn't look too bad.

Especially compared to this fugly conversion (but still cool that it was pulled off):
