LS powered t/a clone
« on: November 07, 2014 - 12:10:21 PM »
So some of you guys may remember, a while ago my buddy sent me pics from his body shop of a challenger sporting all custom suspension and a LS powerplant that was in for body and paint (ill repost some of those first)

well it has officially hit the circuit, including the optima ultimate street car challenge
I think it looks awesome, just wish it was a gen3 hemi instead of a LS, the only thing I dont like about the styling is the rear spoiler, looks like a transplant from a 70 camaro

Sorry, not a fan.  Those fender flares look way out of place.  I like Brad's fender flares much better.  I think this car was an original 440 6-pak car wasn't it?  I wish a 318 car would have been used. :2cents:

From I read it was a clone, but I'm not 100% sure.

Chevy guys be like: why waste a LS motor on a mopar.
MOPAR guys be like: why waste a challenger on a LS Motor.
And Ford guys be like:  what year mustang is this?

I say kudos, you gotta appreciate the craftsmanship.  Had to be a ton of work.

Is that this car?

Yup that's it before they added the spoiler

In terms of exterior styling, yes, other than that I think it LOOKS pretty cool.  Not saying it's for everyone, but if it had a gen3 hemi in it, then it would be a winner for me

I can appreciate the work/craftsmanship involved but only the outer skins are "Mopar"   The chassis is a work of art aesthetically . For me half the fun is "getting it done" with a torsion bar suspension. Chevy based suspensions have been done to death. Yawn...

That's the story.  They sold it and all the original drive train out of it too. Reason given for using LS power was the owner didn't want to wait the time it would have taken to built up the G3 Hemi.  But he was willing to wait for a complete GM style suspension make over?   :screwy:

I agree with brad on that... not a fan of "chassied" cars or the LS power, but I love the look of the car.

I like the fender flares, I might have done them a little different, but I like it!!!

Noticed this car is in the most recent issue of Hot Rod, so I took time to read the article. I knew it was Chevy LS powered from way back when the build started and I saw them selling of all the Mopar powertrain over on Pro Touring.com.  Funny thing is the owner turned down a chance to put a Dodge Nascar P7 powerplant in it because he didn't know enough about the Dodge engines to build a good one and he was under a tight schedule that wouldn't allow him to wait on the delivery schedule of getting a Hemi, despite it being pointed out that Indy and Arrington could provide him with turn key solutions on a 3G Hemi.

So it turns out he fragged his $18k Mast Motorsports 660 hp LS. To keep on the Optima Ultimate Race schedule, he stuck in a stock LS with a cam swap, and is in the process of having another LS built by Mast. So naturally that begs the question, which I posted to him on Lat-G, how's the price and convenience of those three LS engines stack up against a single well built 3G Hemi?

Sounds to me like he's got more money then he knows to do with. And his machine shop/car builder is most likely a die hard chevy guy and pushing him that way.
