McLeods new Muscle Car 5 Transmission

Did y'all catch this? McLeod launched a new 5 speed transmission to fit without cuting the tunel. They showed it at SEMA in a 1970 Cuda with 1000++hp GenII Hemi. It sells for $2795

Correct me if I'm wrong..I didn't read all the articles, but wouldn't you have to cut the floor on a Cuda for a center mounted shifter, and a console would be out of the question ?

Yeah more competition is better.

However the Cuda they used for the demo has a full custom chassis and custom floorboards.  So not exactly the best demo model to prove it fits!

Dang it, got me excited about an easier swap to 5speed.

One other crazy item of note, he built a 1000hp blown hemi motor but only put a transmission that can handle up to 500ft/lbs of torque. Guess at some point he might want to rethink that.

It looks good to me all the way up until I saw that high rise shifter area.

I also call bullship on the height of the box. My Passon A855 is way lower and fits with about an inch above for clearance. That looks like the Legend unit out of the US south. I also think that exposed shifter rod will bring in lots of grime over time. But those are small issues if it mechanically fits where the A833 came out but Quick time bellhousing (cause that bolt pattern dont look Dodgy to me), special clutch stuff, driveshaft looks like it needs to be longer. Ka-ching ka-ching suddenly you are up to about $4500 hmmmmmmm.

Not a fan of that gear spread.  Talk about granny gear and super tall 5th.  No thanks.

And no thanks to only 500 ft-lb rating.  Sounds like a TKO 500.

Passon A855 only trans worth its salt to retrofit in our cars.  Too bad you need a 1.5 year wait to get one.

No problem with the spread , Mopars have a long flat torque curve anyway , not much different than the 833 OD but with 5 gears between not 4 !
the upper shift rail is never going to fit the stock floor & 500 ft lbs rated  what is that good for . definatly need a different belhousing flywheel & clutch might work depending on the spline they chose what about clutch linkage ?
 I still prefer Jamies 855 personally !

Do you see the location of the shifter with respect to the rest of the transmission?  It's a tower that can be milled, drilled, tapped, bracket attached to and the shaft extended thru to fit the E-Bodies.  Red Roberts has his hand in this and it will be first class.  It sure looks nice and compact.
