70-74 Cuda or Challenger Wanted - Driver-
« on: August 05, 2002 - 10:08:35 AM »
What I'm after ( along with many others ) is a 70 - 74 Cuda or Challenger.  Big Block, 4 Spd. Driver.  Numbers don't have to match.  I'm not up to a total project, just something I can drive on weekends and do a little work on to make it presentable.  A 340 is OK too.  Looking to spend in the 6 - 7,000 range.  Am I out of my mind ?

Thanks

Welcome to the board Pistol Gripper!  No, you're not out of your mind, but it probably won't be easy.  Most of us keep our eyes open for available e-bodys.  Where are you located?

Hi all.   I'm in Ohio and am willing to go a reasonable distance to pick up an E-Body to drive it home.

Thanks,  I'll check it out.  318 3-Spd ?  Sounds like some work to get it where I want it.  I'm also considering converting an Auto over to a 4 Spd.  Have to lower the cost by a grand or so to do that.

Thanks again.  I've sent an email off to see what kind of shape it's in.  It's not too much above my price range, just have to eat peanut butter a while longer .  :D

Rev,

Still looking, not in a hurry,  You know how speed costs money  :)   One I was going to bid on eBay, the guy pulled the Ad.  Most of the others are too much or the cars are too big a project.  God grant me patience,  Right now !  Hehe.  Thanks for all your leads, I'll keep after them.

Absolutely don't rush into anything!  Sure as shootin, the day after you buy one, you'll find the perfect ride right around the corner from you for less then what you just paid.  It took us a while to find ours.  Of course, we had to drive from Georgia to Kentucky to get it, but it was well worth it.

Good luck with your search.  If I see any more, I'll post it here.

Rev It Up..........

Thanks for the help.  I just got home from buying a 74 Challenger.  Not the Big Block 4 Spd I was after, but it's a solid,  numbers matching 360 Auto.  A start anyway.  Now do I convert this one or keep it matching and restore it?  Decisions.... Decisions !

Congrats!!  How about some pictures?  Is it a big project?  As far as converting or keeping numbers matching, I would have to say this is your baby.  If you want a BB than go for it but always keep that engine.  You can always put it back in.

I'll get some pictures as soon as I get her home.  Shouldn't be a big project, mostly exterior body work.  I'll repaint it the original Rallye Red.  It has the usual rust on the panels, under the doors etc. from Ohio winters.  I'll have to replace one rear quarter ( which was included )  Car was Ziebarted early in life and stored indoors so the rails, trunk and floors are rock solid.  Interior is an 8 out of 10 I'd say.  Overall it should clean up OK.  The guy before me ( second owner ) had the front suspension re-done and new shocks all around.  The pipes and mufflers look fairly recent too.  The 360 doesn't smoke and sounds healthy, but has 115K on it so I might swap in a BB while I rebuild it.   Oh, and did I mention it's 5 miles from my house ??  Like you said "right around the corner" Hehe

I agree, It be fun to put a big block in it, but hang on the 360.
