« on: November 08, 2014 - 02:07:48 PM »
hi, i posted in parts wanted and so far nothing, thought i might take a diff approch here.  I have the blower-speaker adapter, but it lacks the bottom side that has the two ovals cut into it --to mount the speaker and the blower motor.. i was wondering if someone that had this { out of the car of course}  could trace theirs and send me the tracing --so i might have one made,, just a thought,, thanks alot----pat

tom, that is exactly what i have,, there is another part to that, that has two 6x9 holes in it that the speaker and blower mount to. then the two go together. you seem to be missing the same part. this is used to have two rear speakers and the defrost. from what i hear a rare item.. if anyone has the other part, that would be great? but i think we may have to have one made from a tracing of the other part.. if i get a tracing i will let you know, thanks for response----pat

I installed one of these in my 72 Cuda when I was on the trek of installing every OEM convenience option there was. You are right, it was hard to find along with the wiring, switch and switch panel. Let me see if I have some pics of the unit for you.

EDIT: Found pics

Thanks for the education Guys. Very interesting. I looked through the rest of the parts that I have and didn't find what you need.  :faint:

I did find a switch facia and a nos defrost switch with switch wiring harness. I'm guessing cuda because everything else in the parts lot was e body cuda.

i know you have one piece, prob not worth the cost of the set just for the one part http://www.classicindustries.com/product/mopar/parts/me8135.html

ME8135 - 1970-74 MOPAR E-BODY REAR DEFROSTER/SPEAKER HOUSING

Replacement rear defroster/speaker housing for 1970-74 Mopar E-Body models. Manufactured from pot metal this housing mounts under the rear package shelf; houses the rear blower motor and passenger side speaker.

*edit: looks to be out of stock. but at least you know they make a repro. maybe Dave @ Roseville has em, or maybe C.I. can point you to the manufacturer?

*edit 2: a google search of "1970-74 MOPAR E-BODY REAR DEFROSTER/SPEAKER HOUSING" brought up a number of sites, including an original on ebay (needs total refurb though)

This was a picture (green) of one on Alan's Barrelcuda.

So what one is right?
Speaker in front or back?

i do not know the answer, but looking at the design I would have assumed the speaker would be up front - directly under the speaker grill. having the speaker fire into the metal/trunk would be useless. unless the idea is to use the speaker grill in the package tray to pull air from the cabin? i dunno, both seem valid

I went forwards and backwards through the factory service manual and this is the closest pic I could find  :o     so I'm thinking logically about this (hahaha) and if I was designing it, the speaker would be towards the front and blower at the rear - this way sound quality isn't compromised and the blower can still draw air from the main cabin. if we want to get picky, the correct finish is Satin (per the manual), so the green pic is the correct finish, but the purple one is probably the correct fitment.

This is what i found---looks to me speaker is under the speaker hole cut into the adapter,,i would guess speaker is primary and the defrost is a secondary feature,,the adapter also has holes to mount to the speaker hole in the package tray...

Yea...I had second thoughts on that installation too...I just put mine back the way I found it, but who knows with a 40 year old car whether or not someone was monkeying around with it before I got it. I never claimed mine was 100% correct. :2cents:

I saw a 1974 where it was bolted to the trunk hinge support.   Guy said it came that way and he was original owner....   Who knows....
