T/A finally pulled out of storage
« on: November 08, 2014 - 11:54:35 PM »
This is my brothers T/A that's been in storage for about ten years. This car was restored in the early 80s and went through the show car circuit for a few years. Eventually the motor spun a bearing and the car changed hands a few times. Somewhere along the way the motor was rebuilt before my brother got it. He drove it for a few years as the paint deteriorated and eventually fried the clutch at the track. It was running 12.9s on street tires. He parked the car in an enclosed trailer while he was in college, got married and had kids, and moved out of state for work. Since Ive just been finishing up my Cuda, my dad recently finished his 70 hemi Cuda convertible, and my other brother has started driving his restored 71 Cuda, my oldest brother has been lamenting the fact that he doesn't have his car running. He's coming in town for thanksgiving this year, so my dad and I thought it would be fun to pull it out and get it driveable for him as a surprise. The gas tank rusted through so we swapped that out today along with a few other odds and ends and she fired right up! Sounds great and even idles nicely. We're going to change all the fluids, swap the clutch, and then she'll be ready to roll!

Neat story and good looking car.  Sounds like a great surprise for him.
12.9s on street tires is impressive.

It was originally a citron gold metallic car with louvers and a vinyl top.

Does it have a broadcast sheet? My T/A had a sheet for a FY4 T/A in the front seatback.

I don't know that we've ever found the build sheet, we don't have the fender tag. My dad did pay for Galen Govier to verify the car and look it all over. He found the lower control arms are not original, the original trans is gone, and the passenger side fender has been replaced. Instead of providing us with his report and new fender tags, he took his $1200 and we never heard from him again.  :swear:

My dad tracked down the guy who did the restoration, and he knew he had the tags somewhere. Unfortunately he passed away and we never got the tags either. He did provide a lot of details on the cars history before he did all the modifications. You can't see a lot of it in the pictures, but the car is dripping with chrome. Axle, control arms, brakes, sway bars, everything. His exact word were "if I could fig it in the chrome tank, it got chromed. I would have chromed myself if I could have."

What a cool family and what a load of neat cars! It'll take a week or two for your bro to get the grin off his face, I bet.

That's interesting, I believe we were once told that they only built three FY4 T/As, or something like that. The seats in the car when we got it were some sort of diamond tuck crushed velvet.  :puke: Was your car originally FY4?

My T/A is original FC7. This build sheet was inside the passenger seat. Have you looked in the back of the front seats? What is the last three numbers of the VIN?

We've looked behind the seats as we recovered them when we got the car. I don't know that we've looked behind the glove box or under the carpet. I'm going to take a look tonight when I get home. I'll check the vin as well.
