135 amp Mig welder at Eastwood. Act quick!

I was just on their site again and the same welder is coming up $199 again.  It must be a pre black Friday or Christmas special.

Anyone else seeing this?

I wish their AC/DC Tig would go on sale for $399. I would be all over that one. I've had a 100% argon bottle for at least 7 years, waiting for the right deal.

I check it all the time. It comes up to $279 most of the time, but came up T $199 again last night. This is on their welder info page showing next to all of the mig welders.

Maybe they throw it out there once in a while or all of my other internet search cookies are set and triggers the lower price, due to all of the sites I visit.

Just got mine in yesterday.

From a visual inspection of the gun and welder, it is equal too or even better than my Lincoln that was three times the price. The Eastwood welder is Made in China. For everyone (including me) that thought it was somehow made, or assembled, or had the stickers put on, or had any components come from America, that's not the case.

The gun/cable assembly is far superior to the cheap one included with my Lincoln, in terms of looks (quality) and ergonomics.

The ground clamp is a little chintzy (same one my Lincoln has) and the ground terminal (on the ground cable/clamp) has broke (on the Lincoln) a couple of times.

Tensioner/drive wheel system is made of plastic. Lincoln also has a plastic drive wheel/tensioner assembly, but their design is far superior and a better plastic.

The internal wires for changing polarity leave a bit to be desired. The wires are decent gauge, but are not very flexible. Probably related to the limited number of strands found in Chinese wiring. Heat shrink job was not very good, using poor quality Chinese heat shrink.

Product had that too infamous "Made in China" plastic smell, no big deal really just air it out.

Have not welded with it, but overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Appears to overall be a quality piece. Customer service has mostly been good with Eastwood.

After having purchased a brand new expensive Lincoln a couple of years ago and having problems while welding I was not impressed with customer service.

It was 6 months old and having all kinds of wire feed trouble (related to plastic drive wheel hub system). I called Lincoln and explained the problem and that I am pretty good with welders and welding and knew what was wrong.  They essentially told me to take it to a local repair center.  That sure works well if you are not a hundred miles or more from one. Would not send me replacement parts for it. I've since purchased all metal drive wheel hub components to retrofit to get it going good again.

If I had the opportunity at this price point, when I purchased my Lincoln, I would have purchased this Eastwood welder instead.

I would tell anyone else to not hesitate to purchase one at this price point.

It looks like regular price on the Eastwood is $314 on Amazon. Given that price I would probably spend the extra $60 to get the Hobart handler package on Amazon, that is roughly comparable.

I can't say how well it welds as I haven't fired it up.

Interestingly enough as I was searching welders I came across this one I have used before:

It is a Real Gear welder. It looks exactly like my Eastwood does on the inside, and exterior. Who ever makes them I bet makes the Eastwood ones.  The Real Gear welder I used before was fantastic. I worked it hard and had zero problems when I used it to build a metal fab building.  They can be had for under $300.

So if the Eastwood functions anything like that one, then yeah I would probably pay about a max of $300 for it.

However, if you can use that coupon all the better. I knew welders could be had for $300 and probably be pretty decent. I was not going to spend the money, but at $200 plus shipping I jumped all over it. I had no plans to buy one, despite wanting a 110 one pretty bad,  but couldn't pass up the deal.

I've been welding all day with the welder and can say that it is a very good welder and a Fantastic deal.

I was finish welding all of the joints on my snow plow mount that I made for my Yamaha Big Bear 4x4. All the big snows that Buffalo got last week had me worried that my quad didn't idle and my plow had to be put back on. I got the carb cleaned and the plow on so I'm ready!
The angle iron I welded up was a little over 1/8" and the welder performed as well as my old Lincoln if not better. And yes I paid almost 3 times the price for the Lincoln too and that was back in 1990. It too had a plastic pressure roller load assembly but I've never had any problems with it.

Pulled mine out of the box and I was impressed with what I got for what I paid. Sure some parts are plastic but you will find some of the same parts built the same way on higher end welders.

This deal gave me the excuse to go whole hog into welding my next project.

I am certainly not unhappy with my purchase. It was a great deal on a welder that seems to overall be good to great quality. The mig gun assembly, blows the doors off any of the cheaper Lincoln lines. I always hated my Lincoln gun (way too small and hard to hold with welding gloves) This gun is bigger, bigger trigger and built strong like a pro design.

At the price point with coupon the welder is a great buy, and blows the doors off anything else available.

A little bit of welding at the start of my video here.

I wanted to see if my I-phone would dim as the spark started but it didn't.
I actually need the phone inside the helmet with me but it didn't happen. 
I don't get a long shot of the finished weld either.

Oh well, you get to hear the sound and see a little side to side motion.
I was welding equal sized pieces of metal so the side to side is equal.
If I was welding thicker to thinner metals, you stay on the heavier gauge a little more and less on the thinner piece.

This tip is for the new welders like Tom.  The others who have welded already, already know what works for them, so I 'm not trying to tell them how to weld.
