This was the response from Matt at the Eastwood Company in 2010 concerning a post on another website saying that the Eastwood welders were Junk.

"Re: Eastwood Mig Welders?

Hi guys,

I wanted to clear up a few of the concerns on our new Eastwood welders that I've seen mentioned her and on a handful of other forums.

1.These are NOT rebadged or rebranded welders made by another large company for us with our name on it.
-These welders we designed and tested in house here at Eastwood. They were designed to be EQUIVALENT to the Lincoln Mig Pak 10 (our 135) and the Mig Pak 15 (our 175). We oversaw every step of the production process to make sure these were designed to our specs and expectations. Our main concern is to give you a welder that is built to the same specs and quality as a industrial welder, but priced towards a serious hobbyist.
-We go so far as to back our welders with a 3 year warranty. That is backed by Eastwood Company, not by a 3rd party company, like people seemed to be confused about. We didn't begin offering these for a "quick buck", in fact we are working on designing further products to add to our welding product line (can you say affordable TIG and Plasma cutters?)

 2. Consumables- Our welders are made with a Tweco style gun (the same as most major companies including Lincoln use). Therefore all consumable parts (nozzle, tips, etc) are available at any local welding supply store. We are enthusiasts here ourselves, and we know the frustration of needing a part or supplies halfway through the job and not being able to get it! (for me this past weekend it was running out of mig wire at 5:30PM on a Sunday and realizing the only local "Farm" store that would have wire closed at 5  )

3.These welders were not the ones you may have seen on Ebay a year ago for sale. Those were simply another company's welder we were retailing under their name. These welders are brand new welders that we designed from step 1. Any other welders you may have seen previously were before we began manufacturing our welders.

If you guys have any other questions or concerns feel free to ask me and I'll do my best to answer them!

***In fact I can offer anyone that is on the fence about one of our welders the chance to try it for 30 days with a hassle free return policy. Buy it, use it to weld your rusty project car, patch a frame on the same project, your sons go-kart, your fence in your yard, your neighbor's shed doors, whatever... If you don't like it or it doesn't meet your expectations (which I highly doubt!), than give us a call and we will be gladly take it back and refund your money.***

Hope that cleared up a few questions and concerns.

 -Matt/EW "

I've got their 175 amp mig welder with the spool gun. I paid a bit more than $199 for it, but it works very well for what I've thrown at it so far. I haven't tried the spool option yet as my aluminum welding is pretty limited.

I also have their 40 amp plasma cutter. It is a screaming beast when its cutting, but for the price, I got it at one of those big discount code deals, it is freaking great. Now that I have it, I wondered how I got along without one for so long.

Hey Rob ... what is with that discount code anyway? Where did that come from?
Cheers!

Hey Rob ... what is with that discount code anyway? Where did that come from?

In my top post, I was going through some e-mails and trying to look for a welder and also get my Lincoln welder PCB fixed. I had a clicked on a link to Eastwood, then went to bed. I got up the next day and saw the $199 priced welder and clicked on it. The cart came up $199. I decided to check out their other welders and wanted a spoolgun. Price was too high, so I went back to the 135 and started a new cart, it came up $279.  I started clicking my "back" button to get my older displayed price back up. As soon as I saw it at $199, I checked out.

I spent an 1-1/2 hours then next morning looking through my browsing history trying to find the "code" that I had seen in that field. Never saw it again but I knew it started with GA.  I guessed that it was a one time thing and I lucked out.  I get my welder and on my invoice, there is a 47 digit line and right in the middle, I see a GA...... number. I plugged it into the field replacing the one showing, hit "apply" and voila, price changed to $199.
Did you order one before they run out?

Yes. Ordered it just a couple of hours ago this afternoon.

Wonder if that "code" will get you discounts on other things too? :dunno:
Cheers!

Tried it on other things, doesn't work.

I didn't want to try too many times before you guys ordered your welders. It might raise a flag somewhere.

If anything, Eastwood will get some extra internet buzz about it's welders and some new users/future customers.
They can't complain if it is their code we are using.

Got a nearly new Lincoln 220 system that has been giving me all kinds of wire feed trouble with the plastic drive system. Ordered parts to fix it.
New shop doesn't have 220, so needed a 110 anyway. Didn't want to go with HF, and Lincoln was too pricey since I already have one that is nearly new.

Perfect deal and coupon. Just what I needed!

Thanks a lot.

You're welcome all. I love good deals and great deals are even better.

I hope some of you enjoy or will enjoy welding as much as I do.

In my pic below, my '93 IROC Daytona race car was originally welded up by me as a '76 Plymouth Arrow with a 440/727/Dana in it. Raced it at many Mopar Nationals and Monster Mopar events for years.  I found a Daytona wrecked in the front. I bought the Daytona and cut the whole bottom out of it and welded it on to my Arrow chassis and welded in extra metal to close all of the gaps.  Instant new race car!

It is just so easy to roll out my welder, plug it in and start welding. 110 is all around my garage with 12 Ga wire to every socket.
Just NEVER use an extension cord with small wire in it. You'll get sparks but the weld will not give you 100% fusion. If you have to use an extension cord for welding get a good heavy gauge one, just long enough to reach your work area.

Was repair welding up my daughter's broken discount store Fire pit stand last night and the welder works very well. It works better than my 25 year old Lincoln because I noticed that the gas stays on a couple of extra seconds after I release the trigger to keep the puddle pure till it solidifies, just like a tig would.  I guess that newer welders could have had this all along but I just chugged along with my old, working one.

Welded up the thin gauge stand outside, cold winter temps last night and was very happy with the performance and quality of this $199 welder.
Those of you on the fence better hurry up!

Since I'm now on Eastwood's e-mail list, I'm getting all kinds of e-mail from Eastwood telling me about their Black Friday specials and clearance deals.

One thing I saw that was nice was the stud welder kit to use with the mig welder:
How to Fix a Dent with a MIG Stud Welding Kit on a Mustang Hood from Eastwood

I have the Harbor Freight stud welder that I bought for $89 years ago. This add-on would have been nice just for the puller with replacement capture wheels.  Too bad the whole kit isn't jut $20.
