It's snow fun in Buffalo
« on: November 19, 2014 - 07:32:19 PM »
This area is getting absolutely hammered by a snow storm that has stalled south of town.   The pics shown below show the sharp line between who got hit and who didn't, a sense for how much hit the ground, and how someone made the best of tough situation.

Some poor soul was found dead in his car buried under 15 feet of snow.

We are fortunate that most of this mess passed us by.

I don't think that blower is going to be much help.

Unbelievable. In some areas, roughly the same amount of snow in 4 days as typically ALL winter.

Not on your driveway as it compacts like cement. Shoveling off the roof half way through the winter is usually at least a once a year event in my neck of the woods. The longer you wait the heavier it gets too.  :eek4:
I feel for those people in Buffalo , not nice!  Next will be roofs caving in followed by flooding ....

Last night's news said something like 18 roofs have collapsed so far and I believe the death toll is now 14 people.

Bunch of rain headed their way on Monday, so that snow HAS to come off the roofs... :2cents:

In that shot of the people shoveling off the roof.....First I cannot fathom how long it would take to move THAT much snow, even with the number of folks on the roof......second, the idea of going up there with that much weight on the roof??? TERRIFYING!!!!!

Hard to believe, but it hit 65 here today.  Creeks are rising with the runoff, but no floods yet. I was talking with people at work today.  Their stories are amazing:  wading through waist deep snow to cross a street, jumping "down" from a roof but only traveling about 2 feet until hitting the snow, snowblower frames snapping.  Also great tales of neighbors helping each other or complete strangers.  There will be stories of price gouging too, but the vast majority of the people did right by others.

It's baaaack.   I took this picture at the bottom of my driveway yesterday - before it started snowing again.   This is the tradeoff to get beautiful summers and little to no bugs.
