Need Some Help With My Rearend! please
« on: April 30, 2005 - 09:28:55 PM »
I've never had any experience with a 9 1/4 rearend, anyone know if they are tougher than the 8 3/4? Found one out of a 74 B body and it looks very beefy indeed! Which would you use if given the choice? I know there would be some mods but if this is much tougher then maybe it would be worth it. I do know the housing is much tougher.  :dontknow:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA .... than what.... Ummmm, I guess I assumed they were tougher cause they put it in HD applications in the heavy half ton trucks in place of the 8.75. I'll stick with the 489 suregrip. Just had a chance to trade someone for the rearend and didn't know for sure but if you brake them with the greatest of ease, better go with the proven one.

Well Plumb6Pak,
If Chryco is willing to go out on a limb and make a joke, then you better think that 9 1/4 rear isn't much.

it should tell you something when they had them but never used them until the engines were all way down on power , the housing may actually be stronger carrying weight but is definatly is not better at taking HP, they still use them in trucks but not behind 500 ft lbs torque

That makes sense and why would Chrysler spend the money for the more costly to build 8 3/4 if the need isn't there? Thanks Chryco, just wanted to make sure before I told this guy no.

Hey DF, if that was the case, it'd be much larger than 8.75 and at my age the sure grip is gone!! Hahahaha, oops, shouldn't laugh so hard,  :eekbig:  Gotta run!
