K-frame stand

Soon I will remove the engine, transmission and suspension on my car and I wanted to build a K-frame stand. Now when I start thinking about it I have a few questions. Whats a good height from the floor to the K-frame? I guess as low as possible to avoid lifting the car so high, on the other hand comfortable enough to work on the package when its out. 10-12" maybe? Maybe make it adjustable? Is it a good idea to have some support for the back of the engine also? (If I remove the transmission). Is one wheel enough in the back under the transmission mount? Was planning on making it like a T with 2 wheels up front and one in the back. I also thought of bolting the long part to the shorter instead of welding so I can take it apart for easier storage. Anything else I should think about?

Made mine ride height of the car, This way you can bolt the whole suspension on it and make assembly much easier

Nice! Wish I had that nice lift...(and the engine). Height looks good for working on it, but at ride height, isn't it difficult to get it in place? (with no lift). I gotta raise my car in the front, with the rear wheels on the floor. I have to raise it a bit to get the stand in under, then lowering the car on to the stand is gonna be at an angle...hmm.
The support under the trans. is gonna make contakt first. Seems to me that I need a jack under the K-frame, then loosen the bolts and then
lower the whole package on to the stand, then lift the car higher and roll it out.

anlauto. Any chance that you can post a picture of your K frame cradle? I know you work on mostly original cars and use an engine lift so it would be nice to see how you made yours.

Here is one I made.

I never did use it. But I did use it to put the entire front end parts on.
What i ended up using were 2 moving dollies connected together with bracing to put the whole assembly in.

You do it often enough so it must work pretty good! Sometimes simpler is better. I need to build one soon so I would love to see yours

Thanks! All good ideas. I plan on using an engine lift to raise the front of my car, so k frame stand will have to be built low to the ground.

Okay...YOU asked for it. Please keep in mind I've been installing motors from the bottom since 1993. Over two dozen drive trains have been installed using this set-up.

It's simply three pieces of 2X2 square tubing welded in a "U" shape, with four rotating caster wheels. Covered it in some old towels and duct tape so it won't scratch the K Frame.
I have to admit I laugh a little when I see the huge over-thought carts that people make...
