Ebody Fender Dent Prevention?
« on: November 29, 2014 - 11:03:51 AM »
Happy Holidays! Anyone ever have the top side of their Fenders get dented from stones kicking up on the inside on an ebody? There really is nothing to stop it. Would it be worth doing something to prevent it like under coating or maybe dyna mat? I thought of doing something but worried of moisture retention causing other issues. Thank you in advance for your input.

from my understanding (someone please correct me if I'm wrong here), all cars got undercoated in the wheel wells specifically to avoid this issue. undercoating on the rest of the undercarriage was optional, but inside the wheel wells they all got coated.

just make sure it's really dry up in there, before putting on the coating. maybe even pre-seal it with a rust preventative coating (like POR15 or Rust Bullet) that will seal out the moisture and provide a more chip resistant surface

Thanks! Do you think strip of dyna mat would make for more of a cushion or make more moisture retention? The surface is currently painted. Thanks!!!!

as long as the paint has no current penetration, anything should be ok to use (if you go the spray on route, make sure it has several coats). if there are any current chips though, I would probably take care of those first to avoid any potential future rusties. it's probably much better/easier to do the spray on route, so it gets into the nooks and cranies (should also help with a little sound deadening and anti-vibration)
