AAR Value?

Not sure if this is the right section in the forum to post this so I apologize in advance if it isn't.  Basically, I'm considering selling my AAR but am not certain of the value of it.  I have searched on other AAR's for sale so I do have an idea of asking price range, but it's difficult to know what they're actually selling for, so I'm hoping I can get a little input from those of you in the cc.com group who might have some experience selling or buying them to help me out.

The car is numbers matching 340 6 barrel with numbers matching 4 speed trans.
All body numbers match.  Partial build sheet (mostly chewed by mice).
It is FK5 (deep burnt orange) with black interior.
Has original space saver spare (unused) with original inflator bottle.

The car is not a trailer queen, but has been restored inside and out.  I know there are better restorations out there and the car still has some things needed, but I restored it to drive it with the plan to work on the details as I went along (a lot of which has happened).  Since I chose to drive it there are a few chips and other minor paint flaws, but it still looks very good.  I have included a few pictures below, as well.  Any input would be greatly appreciated.  As I mentioned, I know it's not concourse like some on here.  Just looking for rough value input as the car sits today (nice but not perfect).  Thanks in advance.

Beautiful AAR!  I would say $70k for a quick sale, $80k if you sat on it, and $90k for just the right buyer.  What size wheels and tires did you put on?  Also, did you go with the +1" AAR springs?  What shocks did you go with?

That sounds high to me.

Looks like a very nice car, the color is going to hurt its value. I would deduct 20K from each of the above pricing to reflect current values. But that's just my opinion.

Wheels are original 15" (6.5" wide?), tires are 225-60 front and 275-60 rear.  I did go with the higher arched AAR springs but I don't recall where I got the shocks.  I don't think they were anything special, though.

I looked at the same car - color - dash - rim blow - 4 speed here in Alberta 2 years ago. Seller wanted 69 but wound up selling for 59. I was interested but decided to buy a clone instead so I could "make it my own" so to speak. I love that color combo! He paid 57 for it (plus dealer fees and freight to get it up here) at Barrett Jackson in 2008.

Huge plus that it's a 4spd, rally dash car, assuming that it's coded for the dash and rim blow. :thumbsup:

Unfortunately the colour is a huge minus as well as the incorrect details. The tires HAVE to go.  :eek4:  :2cents:

Most buyers are looking for high impact colours or TX9 black when it comes to AAR's and T/A's. 
The problem with today's market is there are a lot to choose from. Not all of them are optioned or restored as nice as yours, but again, in my opinion, a red or yellow auto would trump your 4spd. Numbers matching and documentation is a huge MUST HAVE when reaching the kind of prices we're talking about.

My opinion:

ABSOLUTE QUICK SALE : <$45K - $55K 

AVERAGE SALE: $55K - $70K

LONGER DRAWN OUT SALE $70K - $90K

NEVER GOING TO SELL: $90K - $120K>

If you want anything over $50K you're going to have to get rid of those tires and invest in a set of GoodYear PolyGlas  :2cents:


With that being said, I own a FC7 purple AAR with white interior and factory rear window louvers. I plan on listing it next year for $98500.00 So I'm hoping that my above numbers are wrong and that they only get better as time goes by. I personally think Mopars are on the rise again :2thumbs:

Alan's price range is dead on with what I was thinking.   :iagree:  And I do think the prices will climb slowing back up, but right now that's what the market is averaging.

Great car! I think Alan's #'s are dead on as well. For me the rallye gauges and 4 speed are a necessity for a Trans Am car and I wouldn't consider a standard gauge or automatic car. Colour is a non-issue to me as long as it's in nice shape which yours is.

           Personally I love that color. But then I like different. You see so many of the high impact colors all the time. This color makes it stand out from the rest of the herd. Just my  :2cents:

Thanks, everyone, for the valuable feedback.  Very, very helpful.  I'm still on the fence about selling it but if I did it would allow me to search for a B-body, which has been a desire of mine for a few years now.  And unfortunately, I can only afford one car.  We'll see.  Thanks again, though, everyone.

If that's truly your intention....I think you could easily find a B Body owner willing to trade straight up....

At that value, you're looking at most V code 440+6 4 spd B Bodies :2cents:

Your decision, however I don't think it would be a wise decision to get out of a multicarb E-body to even get into a Hemi B-body (I own both). I would gladly trade my factory Hemi 66 B-body for your car.

The ideal B-body for me would be one that has the following features or characteristics.

1)  2nd gen Charger R/T, '70 Roadrunner or GTX, possibly '70 Superbee or Coronet R/T.
2)  Nice driver (not restored to the point where I would be afraid to drive it)
3)  Factory 4 speed manual.  I would have a tough time giving up the Pistol Grip so for me that would mean '70.
4)  Does not need to have original drivetrain, as I'd prefer to be able to modify the engine and to not be afraid of blowing an original.
5)  Air Grabber (N96) option on the Roadrunner or GTX.
6)  Bucket seats (if possible).

From what I've seen so far, most of these cars are either restored (non-driven) show cars, need a full restoration, or just don't have the options I'm looking for.  I'm sure they're out there, though.  I will keep looking.
