AAR spoiler alignment
« on: December 05, 2014 - 11:17:02 PM »
Searched all over and can't find a solid answer on how to install my AAR rear spoiler. The old pictures are gone so I added these to help get feedback.
The first question is where the t brackets align in the spoiler ? There seems to be a lot of adjustment side to side and very little front to back. Does the bolt sit in the notch (left side) or just in the slot (right side)?

Do the screw ins go right through the double layer of trunk skin? How do people line this up?

I made a template but these answers will greatly help make sure it's accurate.

Ps. Not a show car so 90% accurate is good for my needs....

YES the end screws go through the double flanged area. As for the other holes, just measure them out...the brackets have lots of variance  :2cents:

Thanks for the feedback, it's the variance front and back that makes me nervous. From the back end to the rear notch in the slot it's about 3 inches (left a lot in pic) but it would be almost 4 to dead center of the slot (right slot in pic). Dead center seems to line up better with the cut outs in the trunk.... But I wanted to put out the question before I cut. What mark are people using for the cut? Or should I just wing it :)

It almost seems as if I should just drill center of trunk holes and align from there..

The moulded in "supports" on the back view of the spoiler should be flush with the rear edge of the deck lid. So measure from the edge of them to the mounting studs and that will give you the fore/aft measurement of the holes.

Hope these help. Original spoiler and decklid. Let me know if you have any more questions and I'll do my best to answer.
Note that depth of holes going across are is all the same. 3 5/16.

These are perfect ! All saved

So this is what I'm ending up with . This is a drawing on my template of the spoiler slot, the trunk slot aligned with the drill spot 3 3/8 off the trunk edge. Thanks so much !!

Easy once you have measurements! Thanks chtcuda!

In case the photo get lost in the future here are my notes....

4 bracket holes are 3 3/8th to 3 1/2 inches above the bottom edge.

The first hole is 13 inches in from the left edge and the 2nd hole is 8 1/2 inches from the 1st.

Repeat from the right side 1st 13inches 2nd 8 1/2 from 1st.

When installing the brackets in the spoiler the bolt rests in the notch and is held in by the flat nut, there is a small amount of play for adjustment, I think that is why the nut is so large....

Do you put something in the holes to prevent leaking?  Maybe some silicone?

Forgive me for jumping into this thread. I'm going to install a after market  t/a spoiler. Would these measurements also be correct for a 70 challenger ?

I haven't done anything yet, but I might seal up from inside the trunk, I don't think I'll ever see rain though ......

But I bet you wash the car.  Best to make sure it's sealed.   :2cents:
